Fortunately, coaching is one of those areas not impacted by a salary cap. It's also one of those areas that doesn't take years to overhaul (like an entire roster).

So why is an "average coach" the "perfect fit" for a team with the resources of the Toronto Maple Leafs?

Are we wrong to expect a competent coach until we ice a perfect team?

Carlyle wouldn't be bad.

I'd consider giving Eakins a promotion, as well.

We definitely missed the boat on Hitchcock.

Two cannibals are eating a clown.
One says to the other: 'Does this taste funny to you?'

Two fish swim into a concrete wall.
The one turns to the other and says 'Dam!'

Tee-Dot hung Fruitcakenipple on a wall and named him "Art".

Tee-Dot tied Fruitcakenipple to his fishing line and called him "Bob".

If this thing continues to go off the rails, I would bet Burke hires Carlyle. It seems to be a connect the dots kind of thing with Burke. If you look at the way the forward contracts are structured, most of them expire by the end of next year, when Getzlaf and Perry are UFA. Does anyone really expect them to re-sign with Anaheim?

I'm not saying they want to come to Toronto or anything, but Burke would be crazy not to be interested, and he has a track record of re-aquiring his 'guys' (ex. Pronger, for one)

We should of hired Darryl Sutter as coach, then he could of taken over as gm after the season.

I wouldn't mind Penner to be honest. When he's going strong, he's a threat. That 60 point season, he played some great hockey. I can see him play well down the stretch for the Leafs and the caveat is we'd only have to put up with him for the rest of the season. I would assume him and Lupul are friends too. It would be nice if we could move a contract to the Kings in the deal too. That's probably the only way a deal would work. By no means am I a Penner fan, I just have this feeling he'd do well here for a short period of time, especially with something to prove.

you're the typical bi-polar leaf fan that make the rest of us look silly....

thanks for being you.

Ur the typical douche who only sees the negative in ppl but never urself hey, lives his boring ass life talkin out of his ass and never changing. Like the bipolar Leafs, we're gonna have some bipolar opinions. One night we look like the 67 Leafs, the next night we look the expansion year sens. It goes from being, wow, we look unbeatable, to wow, how are we gonna win? If you dont see from that perspective after games ur delusional. Ud basically be sayin results dont effect how you feel about something. And listen i only called you what i did bc ur a piece for makin this guy out to be "bipolar", who the heck are you mr keyboard man, keep ur bs to urself.

It's possible. I remember before the season, telling Oil and Kings fans that he was basically the north american poni. I never realized that was an insult to Poni.

And Poni is an interesting example.....in the right situation and system, Poni is doing well. In 9 games with the devils he has two goals and eight points and is a +6. He was a failure in Pitts, LA (interesting since Penner is essentially failing in the same way) and Carolina. Yet in New Jersey he looks like the Poni that was with the leafs. Again though, I'm only interested in Penner if it means we dump a salary the other way, i.e. Lombo/Komisarek/Armstrong (sorry, just not a fan of what he's become).

Bandwagon? How can a group that's been around for the past three full seasons be called a bandwagon?

*If we miss the playoffs, I think he deserves to be fired. If we make it, then by all means, let Rotten Ronnie keep the job.
Am I wrong to feel that way?

I'm not a fan of firing a coach mid-season anyways. Before the all star break sure, but at this point it does nothing but set the team back, new systems to learn and utter chaos all round.
