Im done using Wang as the scapegoat. Im pretty certain wang isnt making hockey decisions. The onus falls on Snow for the players he's assembled, and Capuano for the roster decisions. Both of whom have not done a great job. The worse of the two being Snow for not allowing the young kids to play this year, and his panic "try out" signings.
- kindlyrick

Yes but who hired Garth Snow and who hates tough guys on the Isles and who never says anything and accepts losing? That man is Charles Wang.

Says who? The Barclays is set up for 14,500 seats for hockey games and 70 or so luxury suites. The MTS Center in Winnipeg seats 15,000. Why is that arena sufficent, but the Barclays is not? Bettman is saying that an 500 extra upper bowl seats makes or breaks an arena for "usefulness"? I don't buy it. If the MTS center is sufficient, so is the Barclays.

Besides, the Coliseum only seats about 1,700 more people than the Barclays will and the Isles can't get 14,500 people a night anyway.

- Jethro09

Great points Jethro. The Rangers do not want the Islanders in Brooklyn. Dolan has probably been crying to Bettman.

He's got nothing to say. What can he say? He can't tell the fans "I won't move the team". He loses his leverage with Nassau County. He can't say "i'm shopping the team" or "I'm going to move them" because he'll lose what little fan support for the franchise he currently has. He's stuck saying nothing.

Bottom line: question CW's motives for buying the team all you want to, but this debacle with the building is not on CW. Its all on the local politicans and developers who want to screw CW. CW and the Isles are TENANTS of a county-owned building. Yet if you listen to the politicans who opposed the referrendum, its CW who should pay for a new place. They expect CW to pay to demolish a county-owned building, pay to build a new county-owned buiding on county-owned land and to pay the County annual rent for the privilege of spending over a half-billion dollars of his own money to build the county a new arena. Forgive CW if he doesn't jump at that wonderful offer.

I rip CW apart for how he's run the team. I think he's done a bad job running the organization. But I don't fault him for the arena nonsense. The guy offered to build a $3.8 Billion, privately owned redevelopment of a wasted, 77-acre concrete slab in the middle of nowhere, including a new arena, and the politicans F-ed him. Now, those same crooked politicans want to make him pay for an arena on county-owned land. Forget it. If I was CW, I would have told Nassau to F off a long time ago (the wrong move, admittedly, from a negotiating standpoint).

Everyone thinks CW is full of s**t when he says the arena by itself isn't profitable. Well, if he's so full of s**t, why hasn't anyone refuted his claims with actual projections or numbers? Why hasn't anyone come forward and offer to build CW a privately owned arena and have the Isles as an anchor tenant?

If you want to be pissed at someone/something with respect to the arena situation, look no further than the politicans in Nassau County and the TOH, the local business and commercial real estate owners who opposed the Lighthouse and the ABLI, who's membership didn't stand to profit from the Lighthouse.

I think I'm done ranting now...

- Jethro09

I agree again Jethro. Charles has done a lousy job with hockey decisions and being out of touch with the fan base but the building mess is not on him.

So apparently Rick Nash is on the market.......

A) Would you try and trade for him and his $7.8 cap hit? Keep in mind he has a NMC (which means this is a pipe dream anyway) And he's only cracked the 70 pt plateau once.

B) What do you think it would take?

And before someone asks for my source, here it is:
Renaud P Lavoie @renhockey - 2 NHL sources told me that #bluejackets Rick Nash is on the market.

Makes sense. Jackets are going no where fast with or without Nash. He's their best chip to bring back some young talent and high draft picks. They are a lock for the #1 over all pick this yr. (slim chance they slip to #2 overall) Adding another 1st rd pick in this loaded draft and a prospect to spice things up is smart.
If they can dump Carter and his insane contract for another 1st round pick. That would be a coup.
Yep IF Columbus could trade Nash, lose Carters contract and add another two 1st rd picks along with a prospect or two. They'd be foolish to pass that up. IMO.

Almost forgot. No I wouldnt make a pitch for him. BJ's are gonna want (as I said) a 1st rd pick and more in this yrs draft. Since our pick will be in the 5-8 range again this season I want the pick.

I wish Rolston would take a seat. One that has drying cement on it. AMac has had a down year no doubt, but I'm not comparing D-men to Forwards. That's an entirely different debate.
- BringBackBalky

Im chalking it up as a sophomore slump... Ill give him this season & see what he brings next year... if its the same as this year... then ill start to worry.

hartford is not an option..need a brand new arena..the state has zero money..have you read this book before??
- NYI78

Hartford is VERY much an option. Not Long term, but the team can end up there for a hand full of seasons.. this has been an option for quite a while now.. didnt you get the cliff notes?

This team is depressing to watch sometimes. The Isles have to be the most inconsistent team in the entire league. You never know what team will show up and what players will bring their A games (yeah I said A games).

Unfortunately our management group is so (frank)ing dumb this team has lost its identity. The Isles are not a team who will out work you and capitalize on turnovers or skate with you all night, no - the Isles will just prance around like a bunch of (frank)ing flaming someone who is attracted to the opposite sexs and watch you pepper their goalie with 50 shots and pray they make it to OT so they get a god damn point. Unfortunately the more games Nabby plays the less chance we have at finishing last so Yakopov isn't happening.

Snow - do something right this year and trade Nabokov. He's going to walk away a free agent anyways, stop being so (frank)ing retarded. Your not fooling anyone with your stupid positive attitude. The more you talk about the post season the more I lose faith in you and general chow. Stop the madness, make a move or two. Everybody on this team should be fair game except Tavares. Even Streit could be dealt for an amazing return. This team is going nowhere in the next 3 years for sure, DO SOMETHING.

Also, Andy MacDonald - total let down. Get him out of town.

Yeah I think he's just having a bad year and is also coming off of hip surgery. He definitely deserves another year.

Isn't that what we need though? A long term option?
- Isles316

The question was where will the team be after the lease in NVMC runs out... right now the 3 options are Brooklyn, Hartford & NVMC.... any of those 3 could house the team while another option is being built.

Long term there is no option right now...

I think he just can't handle the role he's been given and he'll be nothing more then a #5, or 6 dman. Hamonic is our only bright spot on D as it stands.

Some people are actually complaining now about the parking being too small and virtually non-existent. Fact of the matter is this, most people are going to take public transportation to that location anyway so it's not a big deal.
- BringBackBalky

Why would more people take public transportation? Where is the fact?

- kasperrko

The WHOLE band is gone, Only Axl is left from Appetite for Destruction, Heck he has even gone through most the guys from this second incarnation of the band.

For arguments sake say Nash would come here. What are the odds of getting a better player in the 5-8 range than Nash? Nash is also a forward with size which we need desperately. It's not easy to get players like him and maybe I'm in minority but I'd trade our 1st round pick along with almost any prospect.
