Tuesday is going to be huge

Yeah I don't think we are gonna catch you guys, unless your wheels really fall off down the stretch, we need to get our poop together too. I didn't think we'd beat Smashville, and I shut it off after they scored late in the third to go ahead, but I'd watched up to that point and that game should not have gone to a shoot out. We dominated that game for the most part.

Ya I agree... gillis is sending so many mixed messages.

Along with the fact there only seems to be like 2-3 teams out of it (or at least would believe they are) there won't be many sellers this year... a lot of delusional teams there right now. Gillis will not give up 2 1sts and a prospect for a guy like ruutu.

the trade deadline is overblown. it's much easier to be a "loser" on that day than a "winner."

i hope to get some pieces like last year for comparable prices. i don't believe in the deadline day homerun. i just don't think it's worth it.

Yes... when was the last time a trade deadline blockbuster really worked out? I remember a few years ago when calgary got jokinen and almost everyone was saying they are now cup contenders... etc.

And we know how well that worked out

Win on Tuesday and you are only back 5 with a game in hand. lot of hockey left. Tuesday does seem like it could decide it though. 9 points would be a lot of points to make up

i typed the same example but deleted it b/c i didn't feel like dumping on the flames. the consensus was that the flames were the deadline day "winners."

i agree with burkie on this matter. much easier to screw up the future than help the present with a deadline day deal.

Ya i was extremely happy with what happened last year... minor "tweaks" in higgins and lappy. Didn't break the bank.. they were decent contributors and think they have been nice pieces. They also resigned.

Another 1 or 2 moves to help beef up the bottom 6 and the bottom 2 on D and things look good!

hey, it only took three years and one more idiotic/bizarre trade and re-signing sequence but we finally made Jokinen into an effective enough player

But yeah, 99% of the time, the teams that really win at the deadline are the already-strong teams that just add one or two small but crucial pieces for relatively cheap, not the pretenders/teams aggressively trying to make the playoffs who inevitably make the biggest trades. See - Vancouver and Boston last year (though the Kaberle trade was quite a weird one in retrospect). Detroit adding Stuart in '08 for a 2nd and 4th comes to mind as well. It's almost as if the well-managed teams are already strong and deep enough that they don't have to resort to making big, risky trades!

I saw the report they might not trade him today and laughed. Ek must be having a mental breakdown, it seems nobody is actually committed to trading anyone this year yet.

If Ruutu re-signs, which I expect to happen, things will get REALLY boring. either that or some names we hadn't expected will get more than they would have otherwise
