Would perhaps light the fire under Nassau. Got a log way to go for that.

Definitely and all the bandwagon "NY" fans that only care about the winning teams may become Isles fans.

Or sign him for 2 years. Biggest reason for them winning is because they are actually getting good goaltending for the first time in years. If we count on Poulin and Montoya next year it will be another lottery pick. And god forbid dp

When Nabokov was asked on XM radio if he would re-sign with the Isles -- he laughed.

You figure it out.

Let's face it the Islanders hearts are bigger than their bite...it's troubling to see them get knocked around, but then, that's what Garth put together,,,

There is no way nabby stays here past this season. The second he's a ufa he's gone and he won't be signing here. Trade him now while he's worth something

I don't disagree with the idea of this. However, as is in my nature I have to play devil's advocate. Let's say by the trade deadline the Islanders are 4 points out of the 8th spot. Your Garth Snow. What do you do? What do you do?

Very tough decision. I would hate to lose him for nothing but if the Isles are close to the playoffs it's going to be very hard to trade him.

Get something back for an asset that won't be around next year. This team couldn't make it past the rangers in the first round anyway and has way too many holes to fill

So your idea is even if we lose in the first round of the playoffs, getting there is worth nothing?

If we were that close I wouldn't mind losing an asset like Nabby for nothing because we gave nothing up for him. I do see what your saying though.

If this team makes the playoffs they will beat the Rangers. The momentum going in would be huge and Martin and JT will be absolute monsters in the playoffs.

4pts out isn't a guarantee of them even making the playoffs. If Montoya or poulin is going to be the starter next year then they should be able to handle the late season push. I take the asset that helps us next year period. This team isn't being built for one run at the 8th seed. If you have an asset that won't sign at the end of the year you trade it while you can. We're not in a position to do anything else

You can't be serious. This team doesn't even have the toughness to compete in the regular season, they'd be eaten alive in a playoff series.

If they can find a way to make it to the post season, then they have what it takes to win a playoff round. We will not beat Boston but beating the Rangers is more than possible. The team always plays well against those guys.

What makes you think we're going to get us an asset that's going to help us? Traditionally goaltenders do not get back much regardless of their play at the time. And while 4 pts is no guarantee of anything, if we trade our best goaltender, what kind of message does that send to the already tainted fan base?

You have to look at this from the other side. People want this team here on the Island. Making the team relevent, even if it is an 8 seed will get more people to support this team, maybe the County to realize Wang isn't trying to run this team down so they will relocate and show possible FA that this team is getting better. You keep Nabokov because of what you can attract this summer with a little success. Trading a player every chance you get will not attract new FA's in the summer.
IF you trade him, they HAVE to get NHL bodies in return, not picks.

You get a third team involved, one that's out of the playoffs. Trade Nabokov to the other playoff team, have them send a pick/prospect to the non playoff team, get an impact player from the non playoff team (probably throw in a mid range pick to get them to deal). Then call up Poulin.

Yesterday's game was the perfect example as to why Michael Haley should be on this roster. Is Wallace really making any impact? Aside from being physical and a great team guy......Haley can play. It's crazyyyyyy to me that they would rather go with Wallace.

Not even a question for me. I trade him. I feel like a broken record, but on a team that says it can never sign FAs no matter what, they have to go to the trade route to bring in assets to supplement what they get through the draft. Most years that's not possible because we have garbage for tradable assets. This year we finally have a couple of pieces that will be in demand, but everyone wants to make them all untouchable. Hey, Snow's a genius if he manages to bring back a quality asset for Mark Eaton or Marty Reasoner, but I think we all know something of some quality has to go the other way at some point.

Nabby playing well and bringing back a return was the whole point of tolling the contract to begin with. Two seasons from now when this team may actually be in position to put together a decent run, we won't even remember the name Evgeni Nabokov.

Fully agree. If pa won't sign then he needs to be moved as well. I'd prefer to keep him but if he hasn't signed a new deal by the deadline he needs to be traded to bring something back.
