JVR goes nowhere. You don't trade a young power forward who was on track to be a consistent 70 pt a year player, for a depth defensive defenseman (Schenn). I don't care what picks are coming back. I'm back to where I was in September/October. Chalk this year up as experience for the rookies. Keep building towards the future.

Sutton resigned. Gill/Allen these types of dmen will minimally cost a 2nd, the list is growing shorter. I'm not ready to concede that.

Not to mention it would be foolish to trade JVR this year. His value is probably at an all-time low. He is having an injury plagued season, the Flyers wouldn't be able to get equal value for him most likely.

I'm not even chalking this year up yet. How many times have we seen the flyers own teams in the regular season then get bounced by same team/teams in the Playoffs. This team is missing something that is the true essence of team sports— cohesion. That is why a big trade isn't going to make all that much difference. If homer can get a stop gap d-man at the deadline and a forward to help on that god-awful PK then by all means do it. I would much rather see Giroux replaced on the PK right now just for the sake of not wearing him down.

The Flyers are a good team but when they have to matchup against NYR or Boston I have concerns. Their obviously not as good for whatever reason but they have the talent to compete. IF they can somehow get more consistency with their team defense, they could be a very dangerous team in the playoffs. Im still a believer that Bryzgalov is going to play his best hockey come playoff time. Is Bryz starting in net tonight?

It's true. JVR and bryz were seen rooming together an my source tells me that JVR has been constantly banging his head on every hard surface he could find. And bryz had voodoo dolls of tje entire D and of bob and was responsible for them all being out of position.
Of course i forgot thats an E4.

Bob was out of position? Before or after the pass to the wide-open guy sitting on his hip?

PS - The NHL needs to ban voodoo...it's ruining everything.

All things considered..this team was rebuilding this year while looking like being a low-level contender (a 6-7-8th seed in conference). A lot of people expected Pit, Wash, TB, Bos to be top teams while Phi, NYR, NJ (how they came on late last year), Buf, and Tor/Mtl (who took Bos to game 7) to be competing for seeds 5-8.

Considering they have gotten inconsistent play in goal, lost Pronger and a lot of other players due to injuries at various times this year and playing a lot of rookies including 2 on the back end, I'm very surprised they are still where they are at in the standings. If our young kids continue to develop and get a taste of the playoffs this year, it is something to build on.

I would just wait to see how the season goes and if there is a deal that comes to Homer that is a no-brainer, then do it but not just make a move at the deadline that gets rid of a Read or JVR for something that really isn't going to help them go deep in the playoffs.

However, I wonder after the season what the Flyers do with Lavy. I wouldn't be surprised to see them look towards a more defensive-minded coach that could help bail out Bryzgalov more so than the more aggressive-attacking system Lavy employs.

Since the New Year I've been thinking Bryz has been getting better, his game log supports my statement. I hope this flu doesnt set him back and he comes back as good as he was before the flu (which he was probably faking according to some people).

The team defense is an example of the cohesion I mentioned. The Devils dynasty of the 90's are a prime example of this. How many Division titles and top-seeds did they get in their cup years? I seem to remember the Flyers always winning the division but watching the devils hoist the cup. The Devils would just start doing the little things right like play their system and let the results happen. Watching this team yesterday it seemed like they were trying to get that break away or odd man rush going and left themselves open for a big counterpunch. I guess losing 4 in a row does that to you.

They really need to understand that to beat the Rangers- they need to beat 'em at their own game. Play the system, be patient and don't take stupid penalties. Do those things and the superior talent level this team has should prevail.

Ah, that's BS... If you don't rush the net and let Lunqvist and the defenders know that your there - you might as well move the franchise to Atlanta. Sestito was going to the net. If he didn't he'd be labeled as soft. Sure, he got there late but he held up and didn't do anything worthy of a penalty. It is something that happens all the time. I can live with the call, but the ranger over reacted (which I'm not saying is a bad thing from the Rangers point of view). The ref should have picked up on the over-action and equaled it out. But, no the Flyers get the extra 2. Normally, this poop doesn't bother me to much - but, it was a BS call. In a 0-0 hard fought game, it was inexcusable call by the ref. I was interested in watching a good game. But, it seemed the Flyers gave up when they realize it was them versus Ranger and the refs. ps. I didn't watch the whole game - to pissed off.
- leon neon

Who said anything about not going to the net? Sestito intentionally whacked Lunqvist in the pads late. That's not necessary. I don't think it deserved an extra minor, but some refs will make a call like that. So don't give them the chance to do so. It has zero to do with rushing the net.

What's BS is your getting out of that that I said don't rush the net.

You're right he wasn't out of position. He really had no chance on any of them.. which goal were you talking about? The 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th? There was an open guy on his hip or right in front of him every time. Sad really

Hard to be patient bc the Flyers are one of the high scoring teams in the league. They use their offense to control games and keep opponents off guard. But when you play NY or Boston their defense counteracts that and forces the Flyers to try and do too much which opens up the Flyers to make mistakes, imo.

Your right. The best teams just let the Flyers come at them, sit back and wait for the mistake. Perfect example was the penalty Mez took yesterday when he panicked and held/interfered with a 4th line player on a rangers counterrush. They have a chance today because the Wings play that free flowing type of up and down game that the Flyers love to get involved in.

Two of the three years the Devils won the Cup, the Flyers won the Division. 1994-1995, and 1999-2000. The year the Devils won the Division in 2002-2003, they edged the Flyers by 1 point.

I think there might be something to the Flyers not having the defensive personnel to employ Laviolette's aggressive puck hunting system. The loss of Pronger is having a ripple effect on the entire d-core. Flyers have two rookies playing significant minutes, they are starting to become exposed.

They have a mix of young and veteran players. Their all still learning how to play together. The injuries that have occurred all year havent allowed them to develop great chemistry. They are still the fourth seed in the East. Expectations need to be scaled down a level in my opinion. Still a quality hockey team who will compete and challenge teams in the playoffs.

It's pretty simple. If you don't get an offer that your happy with it, then you say no. And I want to add one other thing. I don't believe that the Flyers are shopping JVR. I believe they they're getting asked about JVR, and the Flyers are simply listening to what they have to say.

A tight defensive checking team, most times will dictate play to an aggressive forechecking team.

Right. It was literally painful to watch. Bob's let's in (edit) some softies, no doubt, but he had little chance on any of the goals yesterday. Even the 1st Callahan goal (I think it was the first - the one that bounced off his back and in), he was sliding from left to right and still almost made the save while the other players were still trying to figure out where the magic puck had gotten to.
