Right, I'm not clear on that guy's argument regarding starting Bob over Bryz if Bryz is well.

That being said, Bob played well yesterday. He did nothing to not deserve to play tonight other than the fact he is, as of now, still the backup.

- wolfhounds

And as previously stated, if Bryz is 100%, I'd have no problem with him playing. I am making the ASSUMPTION that Lava will go with Bob given how well he played yesterday and give Bryz the long break to rest until the Buffalo game. I dont know why this turned into such a huge thing, It was a simple concept that I didn't think was that hard to grasp.

How Bryz making a whopping 17 saves 5 days ago means he should 100% get the start today is beyond me. He could have made 30 or 40 saves. Its not like he's carrying a ton of momentum with him into the game after battling the flu.

The New York Rangers look good again. Their defense is suffocating and they play so solid. Even when they do make a mistake they have the "King" to back them up.

Dont know if this has any legs but I heard the possibility of Carter to NYR?

care to calculate what, a buyout of Bryzgalov based on the current CBA? That's easy.

That's not the point you were making the first time around but yes I agree with this.

Up until the second paragraph.

If you saw the first period of that game you know that although they had "only" 17 shots, their chances in the first period were largely firedrill odd man rushes that are no gimmes. If the Flyers had managed to score a goal, Bryz would have gotten justifiable props for a hard-won shutout.
- bodiva88

Yup. And you also have to take into account how hard it is for a goalie to stay sharp and have his head in a game that has so few shots like that game. Most goalies (and Bob in particular) play better with more shots against. Somewhere between 30-40.

Bryz should get every goal. And every goal scored by a Flyer was unstoppable by the opponent. Get with the program!

- bodiva88

I'm telling ya! If Bryz turned in a performance like Lundy did yesterday and the Flyers lost 2-1 they'b be killing him.

Im not criticizing or hanging that loss yesterday on Bobrovsky. all I'm saying is if we're going to judge who deserves to start based on most recent starts- Bryzgalov gets the nod. The only reason he hasn't been is obvious.
- JoeRussomanno

I'm with ya.

It's funny how we are all Flyers fans but the debate about goalies can get so heated.

Personally, I believe Bob is a very good goalie who is damn near as good as Bryz right now, he just needs another year or 2 to fully develop, and then he will be one of the best goalies in the league (barring injury) for another 10 years or so. And I hope he is still on the Flyers.

That being said, we all know Bryz can play much better than he has been - and he's been looking good since the All Star break - and this is his team atm.

Okay, my apologies then. Too many crazy goalie opinions around here these days.

I still don't understand how him posting a shutout is nothing to get enthusiastic about even if it was 17 shots. He had to cover up some serious defensive diarehea on that game on some of those saves that if he hadn't could have been chalked up to bad-defense and a good opportunity like we did for Bob.

No biggie I think the bad weather, flyer loss and Rags winning right now has everyone a lil on edge.

Indeed. Bryz has a reputation of being better when he faces a lot of rubber, too. It's another adjustment he needs to make.

Bryz gets blamed for everything. He has played well over the last couple of weeks (minus NYR). I find it funny that during the second intermission Milbury was crushing Bryzgalov about how bad he is (during wash/ny game).

Could have been. But you do realize Bryz has not given up a single good goal. All of them should have been saved.

Being happy about the shutout effort isn't to say it erases his underperformance through the first half of the season. One can feel he has a ways to go to be the goalie we expected and still be satisfied with his recent performance.

I would very much for Homer to find a way to hang onto bob. Good as i think Bryz is I feel bob has more athletic ability thus more potential.

I fund nothing Milbury says to be funny, or particularly useful. It is amazing what a nice gig you can get after being a brutally bad GM.

..............but this I don't agree with dude. If Bryz is playing good, consistent hockey then this board will see that and turn the dogs against the forwards for not scoring enough goals. Which was pretty much the case in the Isles game. Bryz has been maligned around here because of his uneven play coupled with his salary. If he does his part then the focus will shift. It always does.

Well, that shouldn't come as a surprise. It was less than a year ago Milbury was diagnosing the Flyers with "organization failure", while entirely ignoring the irony if himself saying it.

Sorry mochoson, didn't mean to reduce you to "that guy".

The water got muddy (or contentious) with your 2nd paragraph.

I think we all agree - though the language differs - that if Bryz is healthy, give him the start, but if Bob starts tonight, that's fine as he wasn't the reason we lost yesterday and if the team mails in the same effort against the Wings, who is in goal isn't going to matter all that much.
