There's is no way to know the ceiling and capable potential of any player. Dafting high merely means those have the best chance at reaching those lofty goals, nothing more.
Schenn is getting branded as the scape goat for some reason, I don't see any other Leafs D man stepping up. Plus I never saw Schenn as a 1/2, he's doesn't have the offensive skill for that. Hence why he is only making 3.5 to be a 3/4 shutdown kind of guy. Not too long ago he did a damn fine job of shutting down Malkin. You think Gardiner would have any affect trying to push Malkin over? - Boosinicka
You don't need offensive ability to be a top pairing defenseman
He s the scapegoat cause he has a terrible tie trying to clear the puck..... Also his positioning still needs lots of work, granted that can still be taught. Clearing the puck out though is something he should ave mastered by now |

alright, lets go another route with this, with the exception of maybe Eberle, who would you of rather drafted in the 5 slot in 08'?
also, howson has only been the gm of columbus since 07'.. so i dont really see how his drafting record really comes into play yet.. columbus' mess is all maclean still imo - Dozzer
Maybe?

Penner was decent in Edmonton.. amazing how bad he's been since the trade. - robin_steele264
His last season was pretty bad though... but I agree, not LA bad. |

So how are my fellow Leafers today?
Has the emotion of last night subsided and been replaced by a rational sense of optimism for next week.
Let's not forget. We will be hearing alternating chants of:
"Let's go Oilers"
"Go Leafs Go"
in EDM, and based on how entertaining the last game was with these two I can see that next one being a real barn-burner.
I don't think there's much in a way of a trade coming anytime soon. Looks like we'll have to ride this one out. I can see Gustind Reimer splitting the two mid week, with the better of the two getting next saturday in VAN |

Ah you're going to be on of those clowns, he's 22, and he's not the problem with this team. Done. |

A German Shepard could have gotten those shutouts.... The team defense was at its best those games
And you can continue your love affair with schenn
Thanks for coming out though - faceto27
Really? A German Shepherd? Can we sign one then because one of those shutouts was a 49 save shutout. And what did I say that would make you think I have a love affair with Schenn? He was a fan favorite as a rookie, way more liked than Gardiner as a rookie, and that was when he was 18. He was also our best Dman last year. It's pathetic that you're already writing off a 22 year old defenceman who has proven to be great at times. Just like you wrote off Reimer after 3 bad games. |

Couldn'ty believe EK said that he could add much needed 'size'....he's a turd, he doesn't use his size anymore than Ponikarovsky.
That said, considering what it would cost to pick him up this time, you'd have to feel bad for what LA gave to get him.
Also, if this BS about Carter reuniting with Richards in LA is true, then what do they do with Kopitar and his big paycheque? He'd have to go, and there's a guy I woulnd't mind seeing in Blue and White |

are you seriously suggesting he doesn't have a bias toward Yanks?
your own stats 8 Americans out of what 23 is far beyond the league average - not to mention the level of "overpaidness".
what possessed Burke to pay Komisarek north of 4 millon/year.
why did he go out and get Lebda at all?
if he hadn't signed Connelly would it have made any difference - really? - BorjeFan4Ever
Lebda was an attempted reclamation project. And got traded for 2 Canadians, one of which is playing awesome hockey. Don't complain.
Reclamation projects are hit-or-miss... some work out like Lupul, Grabo, Phaneuf, and MacArthur, others work out like XLB, Lebda, Connolly, Lombardi. End of the day, you take these risks because they won't cost you much and can wind up helping the team alot. And if they don't, you can move on from them whenever you need to... since chances are, they're clause-free. |

After Lupul turned his ship around, are we really in a position to question BBs little projects?
As long as it doesn't cost us too much |

think about it this way, he'd come dirt cheap, and we'd probably be able to dump one of our longer term cap hits for him, like Connolly, Lombardi, or Armstrong... or get a prospect.

Penner's a salary dump, no way Komi or Connolly are going. And certainly hope Army doesn't go. |

I have gained a lot of respect for America and its hockey program over the last few years as they continue to pump out more talent.
If Penner can be had then a contract must be on its way out.
Lombardi 3.5
Komisarek 4.5
Army 3
Connolly 3.5
If they are serious about signing Grabo after this year then at least one of those needs to go. Preferrably Komi as he has rightfully been scratch over the past while.
Let's not forget Komi was gonna cost 4 mil per anyway considering the performance he had over the last few seasons in MTL |

Agreed, except that Reimer has really only had 1 truly bad game. Philly was a mediocre performance, and Edmonton was decent. Still picked up the win. |
