if gusty did what reimer did tonight you would blame it all on gustys but since its reimer its ok.... wasn't it you that said gusty alwayssssss lets in bad goals that deflates the team and thats why the team plays like poop for the rest of the game?? well guess what reimer did tonight.
and no gusty isnt my boy, neither is reimer....i just hate how leaf nation rips on gusty for every little thing and reimer gets a free pass.

Gus is better than Reimer PERIOD!!!

Also get rid of that turd Schenn... He is the worst out there

I'd rather have Komi paired with Gards than Schenn

1. Gus blows it when games are close.

2. Gus has no future here. I couldn't care less about him beyond wins and losses because I have no attachment to him. Reimer's currently the future barring a big trade.

3. Reimer gets the benefit of the doubt having suffered a severe injury that has hampered even better goalies than him.

4. This has nothing to do with goaltending tonight, whether it were Reimer or Gus who started. It was a total team (frank) up. Again, the goals allowed tonight were no worse a problem than the lack of goals scored.

5. As for "deflating" the team... This team looked deflated from the very start.

Hypothetical question

If Dion plays 13 seasons as leafs captain, averages the points he has now but wins a cup, is he a better captain/leaf?

Then Sundin?

It depends, so far I am not impressed with him and the Captancy, he doesn't put the team on his back, lead by example or take over a game like Sundin would/could.

Sure he talks a lot in the change room, he talks like he's a leader but does he act like it on the ice with his play? I could talk and chirp like I'm an astronaught....but hop in a shuttle with me and you'll see pretty quickly how screwed we are.

So I'm going to say no.

I would have to agree, Dion really needs to elevate to the next level if he wants to be mentioned in the same sentence as previous leaf captains, he seems almost lazy out there too many times and as a captain that is unacceptable.

But on the other hand, I see him as the best fit with the team they have currently. Possibly Lupul, but it is still unknown whether he will be a one and done kind of guy or actually string together consistent seasons.

Luke Schenn had the potential to have a fine career and a possible captain candidate in a few seasons but unfortunately we as fans simply expected way to much of him in his young career and now with rumors of him being out the door I dont see that ever happening.

Ultimately someone needs to step up and take accountability. This current team is too inconsistent to make the playoffs. I think we need a solid vet to steer this team to the playoffs, maybe not a #1 center who everyone thinks this team is going to get. But a solid player who knows what it takes and can put this team on his back and take them there.

Both Goalies blow, how do you know comprehend this....Don't get me wrong, i despise this team and fanbase but if only you guys had a star goalie you would be like the rangers. Add a decent goalie who can steal a game when the offense dries up and the Leafs could be a top 5 eastern team with second round playoff capabilities. Burke built this team from the net out, now he just need to circle back, add a game changer in net-skip the defense and add some more depth to the offense and the re-built is over.

as a Leaf fan, you should know that playing a team that has nothing to play for is not an easy task. as a Habs fan, i can tell you that a mediocre team fighting for a playoff spot HATES seeing these crappy golf-bound teams coming into town in February.
- DoubleDown

Far as I can telll the season still has over 25 games left and after the Habs manhandled the Laffs last night if I was a Laffs fan I wouldn't be too comfortable considering they have a West Coast Trip next where they'll be lucky if they come home with even 1of the 6 available points , by the way did anybody notice how Eller served the Pylon Phaneuf a cup of tea and then do the same to the human sieve Reimer ? speaking of a team that has nothing to play for well that's the Laffs as we all know that they will fall to their habitual 10th place in the standings ... The problem, as I see it, is that Dion is .... well.... significantly overrated. Name me one other team captain in the leaque that would allow (Sorry, I cannot remember if it was the 4th or 5th goal) a player to simply go around him, 1 on 1, and score.

It looked as if Dion just gave up on the play.

It's shocking. Yet I hear most fans just bllame the goalies.

LIstening to Andy Frost postgame (First caller Frank!!!) no one pointed Dion's game level at all.

WHAT IS WORST, is that there was a team meeting after the game.... is Dion supposed to garner respect from the rest of the team and hold a meeting when he, himself, played awful.

I thought the trade to acquire Phaneuf was great for the Leafs at the time. His problem in Calgary seemed to be that he really bought into his own hype.. by shaking things up with a trade I figured he would really turn things around... so long as he wasnt put on a pedestal like he was in Calgary.

And the first thing the Leafs do is proclaim him the saviour of the world and name him Captain.

He's a good player, but I dont think he should be captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs... as much as everyone likes to rag on them, they are still a prestigious, classy organization, I dont think its right to have him as the figurehead for such a historic franchise.
