I don't mind grabbing a Gill or Pahlsson, presuming that neither costs more than a middle round pick or middling prospect. No harm in trying to solidify in case they get some breaks or suddenly start clicking and manage to make a deep run.

At the same time, if guys already here don't step up and perform better, It won't matter who they bring in. I like the young talent they have, I want it to be nurtured and to grow here.

yes, a guy like Gill or Pahlsson if acquired reasonably wouldn't be a bad way to go. They could help. Having two rookie d-men playing significant minutes is going to expose them at times. No way around that.

maybe it was the master plan all along, make Carter know whose boss. Then trade for him back, turning him into the next Crosby

Exactly my thought. They can't hurt, unless you overpay to get them.

The other path I'd consider is getting a good young defenseman, who can grow and mature with the Schenn, Couturier, Giroux foundation.

What about visnovsky? Hes getting up there in years but can still play. Rumor is the rangers are interested..we dont need them getting any better then they already are. I just hope homer doesnt panick and sign some old as dirt pylon. Either trade for a young D guy like schenner or go for the big fish suter or weber. We dont need a rental ..we need guys that will be with us for 5,6,7 years.

I agree. They need a young stud on the back end. Not sure who that guy is, or how to get him. I think Suter is the guy, and going after him in the summer as opposed to robbing peter to pay paul with giving up assets that will deplete the depth by making a trade.

Yep. Suter would be a fine addition, but no need to bother before July 1st.

Probably would take a contract of 7-8 years in order to lower his cap hit. I don't think there is any way Nashville can sign both Weber and Suter.

Need new CBA first before they will probably set the cap ceiling.

The scuttlebutt was a possible separated shoulder. Holmgren said he would travel to Detroit, if he was injured that badly I don't see why he would travel to Detroit.

Interesting that Wellwood was a last second mysterious scratch for the Phantoms tonight. Perhaps he is en route to Detroit.

Upper Body injury, he is going to Detroit, not known if he will play. Apparently Eric Wellwood is not playing for the Phantoms tonight, guessing he's the call up

Yeah, but 27 or 28 year old defenseman is not a horrible risk with a longer deal.
