Exactly right stveshdy.

Far too easy to shoot down ideas and say lets just hope they pull it together, they are still solid d-men.

Those 3, are solid NHL defensemen. However are far too inconsistent to hold up 15 million in cap space. Far too (to put it bluntly) poopty at playing D to take up that much room, and expect to carry you to the cup.

Who will replace them? A question far too easy to dismiss. At the same time, its also far too easy to roll out the same poop over and over again and hope for something better.

Their defenseman just arent that good imo. Its easy to say who will replace them but their are other options. You dont know how a player will come in and play if the Flyers add a defenseman. Why trade Carter and Richards bc their was no one who could replace them but yet they did.
- stveshdy

Exactly.

Where would Meszaros, Carle and Coburn fit on the depth charts of say Boston or New York.

You have to beat the best, to be the best. You arent going to do that sitting on your ass hoping the guys you have (that are in no way rookies), are going to get magically better.

Change is needed.

I agree. People will give you numbers and minutes and try to provide all the facts that swing in their way but they make too many mistakes and are far too inconsistent imo also. I dont want to rely every single night on which guy will show up.
- stveshdy

The only one I can see that could move is Carle. Mezy and Coburn arent gonna go anywhere. Tho Mezy will be gone before Coburn reguardless.

Anyone thinking that Homer is going all out after his big changes this past summer is in for disappointment, IMO. He might make a minor move but this isn't a Cup contender, even were Pronger healthy.
- Flyskippy

Skip your probably right. Im just frustrated with the inconsistency of this team and defensive group. Im just not happy with the mistakes that seem to happen over and over again.

He may make mves to tighten the D, But I dont see anything earth shattering. You never know Pronger "COULD" return, but thats a discussion for another day.

Not for nothing. I get Mezzy struggling covering for Gusty (who is getting worse and worse) and Carle for Bourdon. But there is no excuse for Timonen and Coburn. Coburn is the softest 6-5 player I can think of and it's not because he doesn't hit. It's because he literally has no strenght to move people out of the crease. Timonen was dreadful again today. He blew the coverage on the 3-2 goal and his miserable decision cost the 2nd goal. Coburn and Read blew the first. They don't clear the crease, struggle with decision making, panic under pressure and almost ALWAYS make at least 1 backwards pass. Add it up and you've got consistent 3-5 GA a night.

I'm heading out, and will leave off with this before everyone starts the love parade on how amazing the guys on this team are.

Everyone is a fan of the team. The logo comes first to me before any of the players.

If they are so good, such promising d-men, why is the same issue of consistency with Carle, Coburn and Meszaros brought up constantly. They are losing games for a reason.

Would be far too easy for Homer to sit on his ass and hope they all put it together, and do so at once. I am not willing to tie up 15 million in those 3, let alone be comfortable with two of them in the top four. You never know if they are going to come out with a horrid game or a solid one.

Enough is enough.

Other teams trade defenseman and get great value so if Mezy, Coburn, and Carle are as good as we think the return should be high. Im willing to make that move for a younger defenseman (prospect), picks and/or a roster player.

True they are not a cup contender skip.

Its about making the moves needed to get your team there. Its what the top teams do.

Good day and good hockey hooligans!

Good call Nutter. Timonen's play can't be exonerated either. He was horrid today defensively and offensively. He's been bad for a while IMHO.

Prob is Homer just re-upped Coburn to a new deal. He is staying for a bit longer. I agree tho, Coburn used to be alot more physical than he has shown.

I see the same stupid poop is going on after every loss.

They suck, they're horrible, time to rebuild, get Weber, whaa(frank)ingwhaaa.

Right now, the Rangers are a better team. So is Boston. Possibly Pittsburgh, if Crosby can return.

It's not about one guy or two guys stepping up, it's team wide. You have a bunch of rookies still learning how to play over the course of a full season. You have guys who are being asked to play bigger roles and more minutes then they have been asked to before.

Rather than being complimentary guys, Carle, Meszaros and Coburn are being asked to carry lesser defensemen. Perhaps they can't handle that role, at least at this point in time.

So many people felt that they were not strong contenders this year, so why are you pissing and moaning when they lose to teams that are serious contenders? Some people in here are like insecure teenaged girls, trying to decide what dress to wear to the dance. Others are just pure D morons who are here to troll and bring nothing worth reading to the conversation or are simply here to rip the team.

This is what happens with young teams, they have growing pains. The sooner you realize that the better off you will be.

Its been over 20 minutes since that post and all i hear are

U are right though, lot of young talent. Now is not the time to rant and rave and rip people. Now is the time to watch this team grow. The Rangers were where the Flyers are now over the past two years. This is a team that has not reached its potential and when they mature and find said potential, then look out.

Actually I didnt think the Rangers would be in first place in the Eastern Conference this year. Boston I expected to be very good still so that comes as no surprise. The Flyers going into the season could swing either way with all the new faces (so their probably were they should be). My only concern is this team has been inconsistent defensively all season long. I do think their a good team but when it comes to playing the leaders of the pack in the Eastern Conference their just not good enough. Im going to have to accept that and deal with it. I dont like that the assistant captain (Timonen) is questioning why some guys bring it and others dont. Maybe the expectations are too high (by me) for this team bc of all the injuries and new faces (including youth).
