Agreed. So if your not as good of a team this is when coaching comes into play. You have to make adjustments that give your team the best chance to win. Im not blaming Lavi cause the players still need to play but changing things up could only help. Their are always teams who have more talent but lose to teams who play smarter.

The thing is this.

Does anyone really feel comfortable having this current group turn into a defense first team?

They dont have the quality of d-men first and foremost. The forwads are not the best in the defensive zone.

Dont become something you are not. Play to your strengths, which currently for the Flyers is the offense.

The guys they have arent going to magically turn into defensive specialists, and that includes the D-men. They need some new blood on the back end, and thats what it comes down to.

Special teams were a farce today. And Lundqvist was good. He's let in zero soft goals in 5 games vs. the Flyers.

Doesn't seem like he's made in game adjustments against the Rangers. I don't think there is an answer for it this year. Rangers have far fewer breakdowns, play with more discipline, and their tender is on a different level. That will do it.

he's good, yes, but it's more of the same. 2 goals the way they have to - deflection, odd man rush - and that's it. the rest is soft perimeter with no screen, and if there is a rebound and an opening with lundqvist down - which happened a few times - the puck always go through the feet, over a stick, a step away, 92 rangers collapsing to the ice in front of him - they just don't ever get to those and bury them.

the rangers look like they barely work to score. get over the line. make a couple of passes. flyers d look like amateurs and there's a wide open guy back door while everyone else is flopping around or standing around looking.

You crack me up Mookie! You are a breath of fresh air during tough losses. I can still go out tonight and enjoy a nice dinner and some cocktails! Everyone else should do the same!

The Flyers could turn into a John Stevens team that plays D first and is mainly a transition/counter attack team.

With the current group of D-men, inconsistent goaltending and a forward corpse that is suspect defensively I think that is the worst thing they can do.

They need a better D first and foremost.

What drives me nuts is how egregious the breakdown are. On some of those power plays, Toby was so far overcommited to one side of the ice it was just a matter of a cross ice pass to a wide open, sometimes 2 wide open Rangers.

Either that or a Ranger just circles wide out behind us and the Toby forward is caught out of position and a step too late. Game in and game out.

today it was especially bad.

So what is going to make these forwards be any better next year? The rookies I can understand will get better with more playing time. How can you sign defenseman to big contracts and have serious questions about their ability to play in the defensive zone. Maybe im over reacting but I dont get what is so complicated about playing defense.

Usually this kind of loss would be put on Bryz...so whats the excuse for todays ass whipping?

How about PP goals and players sitting next to Bob w/no defender in sight.

Anybody tries to lay this on Bob should stop watching hockey. Now.

The Rangers have had Lundqvist for awhile now and until this year have been average hockey team at best. The Rangers are discipline and do have fewer breakdowns but thats the Flyers job to put pressure on them to force more turnovers and mistakes.

Precisely.

Main reason why I want nothing to do with JJ, and am scared what kind of money Carle will want. Same goes for Suter.

There is a glaring need for d-men who can actually play DEFENSE first and foremost. The coverage down low, is horrendous. Most of the time its one of the D.

The 3 goals they scored on the PP were tap ins and one deflection. They had enough time and space to read war and peace while setting up.

Thats kind of the point. If Bryz was in goal today you would hear nothing but how bad he was in net.

Bob saved Carle's ass in the first when he stopped Gaborik on the 2 on 1.

Carle tried a feeble poke check at the shooter. Just one big example that I remember.

The goaltending has gotten enough blame. It seems in every game it is either Meszaros, Coburn or Carle that have a horrid performance. Its getting really predictable. Change is needed. At this point, id be willing to lose 2 out of the three.

Flyers have a competitive team, with a bunch of rookies, and no Pronger. It's not a crime that they aren't as good as the Rangers or Bruins.
- PLindbergh31

I agree I hate it but it is true. The Flyers are a good young team, but the bruins and rangers are a few years ago of them.

I just don't see Pronger coming back, if his symptoms are still this bad he should just hang it up.

There are 3k people at the Edmonton/Ottawa game in Quebec Nordiques jerseys and Bettman signs.

Put the Panthers in Quebec City already. So comical that South Florida has more teams than Quebec.

Regardless of who plays goal for the Flyers, it's like they start each game a goal down just based on the goalie match up.

No.

But some of the ideas I see of basically rolling out the same D-core is batpoop crazy to me.

These guys are not rookies on the back end. Carle, Meszaros and Coburn are 3 of your top 4 d-men and are consistently having too many horrid games. That cant happen.

They arent going to magically get more consistent. They are not rookies. For christ sake shake up the D in the off-season.

It's like using the same retarded pick up line every night and hoping it will work. It may, but it wont get you a dance with the hot chick. (Stanley Cup)
