Why would Los Angeles take a 1st and a prospect? If they're trading Johnson, or anyone significant for that matter, it will be for immediate offensive help.

Look at their defense, two guys are a +4, and the rest are even or minus. Johnson is -9 now. Look at it deeper. How can a defenseman who plays 22 minutes a game be so poor defensively, and yet the team is the 3rd best defensive team in the League? What else do you need to have a good +/-? Offense. LA is the worst 5 on 5 offensive team in the League. Think that contributes to +/-?

When it comes to dmen, +/- can be misleading. They are on the ice much more than forwards, especially top pairing guys. And he probably plays against too lines on a nightly basis.

I can very easily see him getting close to 5.5... and with the stupidity of GMs in this league combined with the lack of good UFA D men this year I can very easily see someone paying up to 6.

How do they get offense if they trade Johnson in a salary dump? He's probably one of the guys that they could dangle that has the most trade value. He's a good offensive defenseman who can help a PP and he's signed to a decent contract for a few years.

Why trade him for picks and then make another trade for offense? If they want a big name, Johnson has more value than a 1st rounder and prospect.

If they can get him under 4.75 I say keep him but anything over that I'd rather go to 7 after Suter.

My guess is he will get around $5.5M and I dont know if the Flyers are willing to go that high yet. They may be in on Carle but see what his market value is (like Ville). If the price is too expensive they will move on imo.

Yes the rumor was Carter to LA for Bernier, Stoll and a 1st.

Obviously the JJ move is to create cap and to recoup a 1st. In a year with a deep defensive draft it's a smart move.

I think the Flyers are kicking tires on their defensive options before signing him. I'm sure they both have numbers in mind already, but if they want a guy like a Suter in the offseason, Carle has to go.
