Did you see Washington's collapse in the 3rd against them last night? That team misses Backstrom more than we miss Crosby. - canadianpenfan
Caps do miss Backstrom, but they actually played a really solid game last night. Last couple of minutes were fluky, Jets score on a 6 on 3 (5 on 3 with goalie pulled) to cut it to 2-1, then tie it up on a bizarre deflection/bounce shot from center ice. Caps typically lose when it comes to the shootout, and that trend continued. No doubt a disastrous loss of a point, though, to a team slightly behind them in the standings.

Good grief, I havent seen anything from yesterday, now that is quite the way to go down.
I don't care if a discarded used diaper would get him, he still costs too much for his contributions. With that said he actually does have 6 assists in his last 10 games- not terrible.

Penalty trouble late and that long deflected shot did them in you're right. My point is with Backstrom that game might have been 4 or 5 nothing by that point.

Ya but his +/- is gawd awful... He's line is the ones who is getting scored on the most.
I'm an optimistic I think if hr gets on a cup contender he will do a lot better. He has been getting hit hard and no injuries, he's on a line that is getting scored on but he is also putting up points. Jim and sid would be deadly...
Bit like I said if we don't get him bc his price is still too high then oh well but if he goes somewhere else for something we could have given up and we do nothing or get nothing in return then ill b mad..
I don't think iggy is going anywhere, we won't get parise or ryan, ruutu looks likely resigned, gill is an option, no to Moore, maybe oshie is avail bit I don't see anyone else...

Yeah, no doubt, Backstrom is crucial. I have been pleasantly surprised with how well the Caps have played without Backstrom (and really, even without Ovechkin for the 3 game suspension). Small sample size, though, so things could still go South. The disturbing news is Backstrom apparently saying that he hopes to be ready by the playoffs. Caps need him before then.
