Yeah that's the thing, Darius and Williams have a ton of potential as D tackles in a 4-3 system, but as talented as they both are I don't see either one of them ever being great as a nose tackle in a 3-4 system. You have to play to your strengths, and I think the Bills would be wise to switch to a full time 4-3 base defense and acquire a big time pass rusher be it Mario Williams, or a trade for Osi Umenyiora...or both!
BTW with 5 of the 6 teams directly ahead of the Sabres acquiring points last night it just goes to show how impossible this playoff run is going to be. Theres just too many teams to leap over, and with the bonus point for OT losses the Sabres only shot is to have a 9 or 10 game winning streak at some point. Which could happen, but until it does the playoffs are a mile away. - SabreHess
But until the Sabres win 6 or 7 games in a row I won't let my hopes get up too high. They're off to as good a start post all star break as they can be, but they can't slow down from here. It'll be fun to watch.

CBS Sports' Pete Prisco expects free agent DE/OLB Mario Williams to become the highest paid defensive player in the NFL if he hits the open market.
Williams has the No. 1 overall pick pedigree, the measurables, the age (just turned 27), the versatility, and the production to incite a feeding frenzy once the cap-strapped Texans pass on the franchise tag at $22.9 million. SI.com's Don Banks suggests the Bills, Jags, and Bucs as the top three suitors, with the Packers as a wild card. We've also seen the Chargers and Raiders connected to Williams. - SABRES 89
Yes please. Its not like they don't have cap room. Hell they will have to hit a cap floor next year.

I didn't say never. Just posting the stats - cabin
Granted several things have to go the right way for the Sabres to make it into the playoffs but anything is possible.
Tanking is out of the question. What free agent would want to sign with a team that purposely tanks just to get a higher draft choice? Most "star" players want to sign with teams that "want" to win. Not just the owners but players must "want" to win....

Completely agree, tanking is something the fans talk about but should never cross the mind of a player. Even if the higher ups in the organization would prefer a better draft position the players on the ice still have pride and want to win.
Also playoffs or not, some guys are UFAs or RFAs after the year, their performance will directly affect their ability to gain another NHL contract.

I don't want us to purposely tank. but even with the wins we have other teams are winning also. Its not gonna be easy thats for sure.

No doubt............ I just want this team to be attractive to any UFA's that might be available in July.... Losing and finishing next to last would not be very attractive to them....
We don't wanna burn miller out . next month we have a TON of games - cabin
Yeah they have to squeeze some Enroth starrts in there somewhere. As unlikely as a playoff push is, it is even less likely if they run Miller into the ground. Keeping him fresh will be vital in any attempt to make a run at the 8 seed.
Talk about a wet dream for NBC...imagine the Sabres got within 2 points of the final spot going into the last game of the season. Buffalo plays @ Boston on the last saturday of the year on NBC. Milbury's head would explode.

They also play Toronto twice in the last 4 games... That could be a huge 4 points to make up the places 7-9

Ok now I know your still drunk - cabin
Why do you say that?? I wasn't exactly meaning that Buffalo would be in places 7-9.. but if Toronto loses 2 games late in the season like that it could change the landscape..
I think Buffalo will finish either 9 or 10 and only 2-3 points out of the playoffs..
I think Ottawa will fall out.. and Wsh and Fla will get in..
I hope Toronto falls out and we or Winnepeg get in though...

As far as the playoff race thing, not that I think they have a snowball's chance in hell at winning even in the first round, I've always fealt that if a team is within 3 points even in the last week they have a legitimate chance if they're a 'Hot' team.
If they continue to play like they've played the last 5 games they'll definitely be within sniffing distance. Just enough to either barely make it and lose in the first round or miss out altogether.
In either case they'll screw up their draft position in a bad way.

If a team ever sucked for a better draft pick.. I would never cheer for them again.. They should lose their fan base immediately...

And that is and always has been a problem for me with teams that Darcy and Lindy build.
