Wow, you watch the Flames play. Awesome!
Given the numbers, I think it's very possible those teams feel their goalie is giving their team a chance to win every night. And given the quality of those teams, I think it's safe to say their goalie is their best player on many nights as well.
My point is: I don't know that his play alone will be enough for the Flames to beat out those other bunch of teams for the playoffs given the numbers suggest everybody is pretty even. Naturally, we'll have to see how it plays out. - micah555
Spot on, takes an outsider to point this out to some of these flame outs. |

Smith was good, not stellar though. The same could be said of Irving. |

The whole point of the thread was who would you take, KipperorMike Smith?
Clearly if the Flames started Kipper, they would have won the game, another poor coaching decesion

He needs to rest sometime...
As good as he's playing right now, you can't afford to burn him out.
Irving gave the team a chance to win. That's all you can ask for. |

Why? Was Kipper going to score a goal? |

No kidding. Irving let in 2 goals and had a .942 S%. That's more than solid for a backup. You don't win a lot of games when you only score 1 goal. |

And the second one only came on what amounted to a 4 on 2 powerplay... You can't ask for more than that. |

Rest him against Vancouver then, the Flames did not make the Playoffs last year because they didn't beat Phoenix once.
You have to play your best goalie in 4 point games, plain and simple. Play the kid in games that are a bonus if you win. |

Fair enough... It almost worked though. You definitely can't hang the loss on Irving. He did his job. |

Th difference in goaltending hasn't been that far off for any of these guys. - micah555
The difference is that there's wins on the board that were purely kippers. He's stealing alot of games for us again this year |

How is that different? The Avs, Coyotes and Wild are suddenly amazing defensive teams that make their goalie look good? If the goalies are all contributing at the same numbers, chances are they are all playing very well for their teams.
Look, sure, Kipper's the best and all the other guys are beneath him. But the job their doing for their team right now and this year has produced the very similar results from a statistical perspective. Thus, the difference between Kiprusoff and the other guys is not likely going to be a singular factor great enough to get Calgary into the playoffs. |

Should be a fun game tonight. Until last game against the Wild, the Canucks have looked pretty crappy. Their been getting badly outplayed and leaving to the goalie to keep the games close. Somehting like 7 of 8 before last game went to OT or a SO. Hopefully, seeing Kipper will get the boys excited to play in the offensive zone.

yea, the Wild have never been a defensive trap team, good point. When I think Minnesota Wild , I think run and gun power house |
