it really is odd.

For some reason I just always think they should be great at home, it just seems they play like a different team at home.

- Buts16

Very odd. I don't think this is a great team, but the way they compete on the road means they should be much, much better at home. There is no juice in the building anymore at all. All artificial noise, and very little fan support.

I think the home advantage comes into play with the home coach getting the last line change.

Bill mentioned this recently, the Flyers this year lack a true shut down center and/or shut down line.

Couturier someday will be that, but right now he is a 19 yo skinny kid playing way above expectations and not quite a true shut down guy.

Not having a shut down line negates the home advantage a little.

Just throwing this out there, the mediocre record at home I'm sure is due to multiple factors.

I agree. Nabokov is a poopty goalie and they couldn't score on him. I blame that poopty goalie.

that bastard, JVR and Bryz for Nabokov and Michael Grabner

When you play on the road you dont have to worry about impressing the fans and making bad hockey decisions. On the road you just relax and play your game. Just tryinig to think of some reason.

I understand that line of thinking, but it goes against the majority of good teams in the NHL. Majority of them are much better at home.

I was a Season ticket holder until this year. Tons of fan support in the building. It ebbs and flows with the game. It always has. How many games have you been to this year at the Wells Fargo Center?

Makes some sense, using this formula shouldn't home teams conversely have more success against the Flyers when they are on the road?

With the amount of home games coming up, the Flyers are one decent win streak at home from being with most of the teams in the playoff hunt as far as home record is concerned.

I always get the away feed and I would venture to guess no less than 8-10 times this season alone I have heard the announcers say something along the lines of "it's shocking how quiet it is in here, never seen it like this in Philly"

I hate it

I won't it bloody chaos in there.

It doesn't explain the road record.

I think playing on the road the team stays in a hotel, doesn't have the distractions they do at their own homes.

Also they have a little less pressure playing on the road.
They might try to get "fancy" at home home rather then make the easy simple play.

Hopefully they can win tonight, because there is nothing to indicate they will win Saturday. In fact a loss tonight, and things could get ugly. Around Christmas time the Flyers were # 1 in the Eastern Conf, by the weekend there is a chance they will be in 4th place in the Atlantic Division.

All they need to do is maintain a playoff spot. They will go on a win streak at some point.

I miss the Spectrum. Talk about a home ice advantage. That was it. Other than the 90-94 era when the team was terrible, Flyers had seasons where if they lost 7-8 home games all year it was a lot.

Flyers are going to be just fine. Winning and losing streaks happen all the time in the NHL. The Flyers will find a way out of this and there is no guarantee they wont win these next few games coming up.

I don't think there is a true answer. We can speculate, and draw some fact based conclusions, but who knows really. There isn't a more veteran team with talent and leadership than the Red Wings, and their home/road splits are very stark.

Pronger has never been diagnosed with a concussion. He only has concussion like symtoms.

On this date 17 years ago, the Leclair/Desjardins/Recchi trade was made. Time sure does fly by. Doesn't seem like that long ago.

you left out the most important part of that trade: gilbert dionne.

They could have a clunker tonight and then beat the Rags and the Wings at home.

You never know with this team.

You could be right. I think tonight's game is very important. Have to get two points. The games this weekend appear to be a minefield to put it kindly.
