I have said this once before but dont be surprised to see Nabby back with this team next year. Al Montoya will probably be gone. Nabby is veteran and can trian Poulin and help the yoounger guys move along. Plus Nabby even though older has been as close to a number one goalie as anyone else on this team

I'm all ears bro. This sounds like a dozy.

There was a new picture on the wall in his office, he was standing on the steps going into the Wings plane. Very cool picture.

He went on a road trip with the Wings, to Columbus. He did everything with the team and the stories were interesting. Like the pre-game meal is a complete buffet set out. Everything from Beef, to pasta, lots of pasta. And what shocked me was the amount of ice cream he said they all ate. He said Detroit prides themselves on being in the best physical condition, they are cardio machines. They need the ice cream to maintain weight.

Joe Thorton's numbers his first year on the bottom 2 lines for the bruins.. a bruins team that was a playoff team also... lets give Nino some time before we put him out to pasture.

I agree 100% that Nino needs some time. But...

There is the difference between Joe Thorntons style of play and Nino's style of play and why Thornton could play on the 4th line while Nino shouldnt.

During the 95-96 season in Sault St Marie Thornton accumulated 53 PIM.

The following season on the same team his total rose to 123 PIM. He joinded the Bruins the following yr.

Excluding his rookie season Thornton's PIM's over the next 6 yrs were 69, 82,107 127 109 and 98.

Nino on his best day will never have the toughness that Thornton has.

I realize this is a different NHL
Although Thornton is still a tough SOB.

IMO. The 4th line should be reserved for players who think "D" 1st, play tough, check, intimidate, set the tone and play physical.

I guess this is a subject that we may continue to disagree on but I just wanted to let you know my reasons.

And I am thoroughly convinced that had we had a the kind of 4th line I described above. The Isles would be in a more favorable position in the standings then we presently are. We lost at least a few games over the course of the year because we were intimidated and over matched physically.

Not unlike myself!

Seriously, thats really a cool story. I think I wanna move to Canada.

Almost forgot, winter finally has arrived. Finally some colder weather. Tonight's forecast has a chance for snow flurries and a low temps in 30's. Tomorrow lows in the 20's.
Flowers have been blooming down here for the past couple of weeks. I saw a toad hopping in the street and a hornet in my garage the other day. Weird for January. Even down here.

That is a fair enough assessment, but he wasn't put there for grit, he was put there to learn the D side of the game, just like Nino.
As much as everyone would like him on at least the third line... the third line.. when matching lines, is supposed to go against the other teams top lines. You dont want Nino & his lack of D there. He'll make it up to the top 2 lines.. when he's ready.

The isles lose because of shaky goaltending, lack of secondary scoring and poor coaching. As much as I'd like to see last years 4th line on this team it's not the reason they lose

I would be shocked if he said anything in private as well. If he did Snow would actually make some moves. When your team has been as lousy as the Isles it's important to hear from your owner that he is unhappy. It's important to the GM, Coach, and Players as well as the fans otherwise you look out of touch. The entire Islander organization does not fear losing because they know the owner does not put pressure to win.

But there are ALOT of teams that are cr@pping the bed right now, i dont hear anything from any of their owners.. i dont see any other teams making moves just to make moves.

Why is it that our team is doing what every other team is doing, but our owner doesn't care? Our GM isnt doing his job?

Maybe that's why the teams are crapping the bed because ownership is not putting enough pressure on to win and get things turned around. There is no way to defend Wang and Snow and any other owner who's team has been lousy for years. I'm not talking about teams that have one or two bad years. How do you defend Rolston being in the lineup day after day or DP getting starts when he has nothing or not have one solid player picked up in trade by Garth in the offseason and not enough toughness on the team?

Rolston is no longer in the lineup. As for dp? That I'm with you 100% completely ridiculous to allow him to play

Lousy for years??? Its a complete rebuild!?!?!?!?!

Rolston isnt in the lineup anymore.. he's been a healthy scratch.

DP was the least of the 3 goalies but still ends the season 3-2-3 he's quite an investment this team has made.. it only made sense to see what they had

He traded for Earhoffs rights, the guy wouldn't sign, he tried to trade for Bowmeister & he wouldn't wave his NTC. We all would LOVE for him to make a move, but the assets we want moved & what they could bring back are pretty ugly.

I have heard from a couple people that there is a deal being work out Gomez + to the Island for Rolston. Since this is a move.. does it make you happy?
I like gomez, i think he could be a fine second line center... but this trade is just helping the Habs, just like we helped the Devils... 2 seasons of Gomez while Strome develops. for an UGLY cap hit

How long did it take to get Rolston out of the lineup? Why is Haley not in the lineup over a guy like Wallace or Nino not being given a real chance? I'm not even talking about Wang spending a ton of money or Garth trading for a superstar. I just want to know we have a GM and he is not sleeping or surfing the web all day. Make some sort of deal to change the mix to show the team and fans losing will not be tolerated. Is it soo hard for Wang to say the losing is not acceptable and we need to turn things around?

A rebuild need to include useful vets. Why is Snow trying to trade for guys that will be FA's in a few days or guys with a NTC? There is always an excuse with Wang and Snow. Snow is not willing to move any good prospects or top picks so he will get nothing good in return. A Gomez move does not make me happy. It's more garbage and we will be the joke of the NHL again. Strome should not need two years to develop. I'm sorry X we are just not going to agree.

What example can you give me of a gm making moves like you suggest? Look at Columbus. Jeff carter and wisniewski is going to cost howson his job. He got restless and now the jackets are even more screwed.

I'm sick of the losing too. We all are. But snow isn't going to move young assets and. Can't blame him.

As for Haley? He is a liability on defense. Wallace gives us nothing but he doesn't hurt us either.

I'm not talking about the Isles making a Carter type move. Snow should have made moves for guys like Andrew Ladd and Dustin Byfuglien or Versteeg. These are the type of moves Snow could have made to improve the team. There has to have been moves Snow could have made to improve the team that did not cost the farm or cost a ton of money. Snow simply does not have the pressure to make these moves. His only job from Wang is to keep the payroll low and keep drafting prospects and stockpilling picks. Winning is not most important job.

No it is pretty simple. GM's make trades all the time. Our GM does nothing
