I watch Celebrity Rehab. I've actually found it helpful in understanding the addictions of people I've known and having a bit less desire to shake them and say "JUST GET OVER IT!" which would be unproductive.

I've seen a couple of episodes, and yes, it's good for those looking for 'understanding'. Unfortunately, I think most people watch for the gawk factor of seeing what the celebrities have turned into.

Most of the time Bryz waxes esoteric about his strengths and weaknesses. At least when he goes off topic it is on something non-polarizing like the big humongous universe. Thomas used a quote to basically imply the the current administration is akin to the Nazis. He is entitled to his views and free speech but his insinuations are ignorant and insensitive on so many levels. On top of that he becomes a distraction once again only two weeks after he last used the fame he gained from playing hockey for the Bruins as a political pulpit. He can think, do and say as he pleases, but I think he is being professionally stupid.

As far as me bringing politics up, all I did was link to a TSN article about a hockey player saying some things that I think are disingenuous. I probably should have left out the "teabagger" bit (I couldn't help it, I feel that group is a horrible caricature of all that is wrong in our country) but aside from that I just linked an article. My views have been made known in here before (conservatives would call me a liberal academic elitist ). I am no longer engaging in political discussions in here. It is a highly inefficient and frustrating use of my time. (Unlike all the JVR for assorted d-men rumors ) No minds are swayed here. Hopefully people can figure out what is best for them and the country and vote their conscience, but I am here as a hockey fan, primarily a Flyers fan, so I've been steering clear of political back and forth. Case in point, I bit my tongue when someone "fixed" my post with a cute bumper sticker slogan.

One trap I really hope I do not fall into here is talking politics ugh you never win those arguments.

I think the Flyers number one target should be Pavel Kubina. Suter and Weber will stay in Nashville for the rest of this season at the least. The Predators are having one of their best seasons in franchise history. Kubina could probably be had for pretty cheap and he would be a very nice boost to the blue line. Rent him for the rest of the season and go from there.

It really is like talking with the dude next to you at the bar (I'm grabbing a beer right now!!!). Just leave religion, politics and the other guy's girl out of it and you won't end up drunk in the parking lot, beating the snot out of each other, and missing "last call".

Yea I usually grab those two and kick back on here but being good this week
My relatives constantly argue politics like crazy. I just look at it this way, I'm not having bad blood between my family and friends over some crook that doesn't give two craps about you or me. In the end they serve their lobbyists not the voters and I like most am the latter which makes me SOL

I'm not too sure, but he's a UFA at the end of the season and Tampa will most likely miss the playoffs and lose him for nothing.

Poor guy is a career -96. In his defense he has spent a lot of time on some poopty teams....only been to the postseason 4 times in 14 years in the league...but he did manage to get his name on the cup in 2004. Ah if only Philly had a healthy D corps that year

EDIT: Kubina has a pretty wicked shot from the point, if I recall correctly doesn't he? Could be useful on the PP. Don't know if he is the porch-clearing stay at home guy I'd be looking for though.

Matt Carle is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, but he would like to remain with the Philadelphia Flyers.
"The general consensus is that hopefully something works out here," Carle said. "That's what my main focus is, wanting to be here. My wife [Clancey] and I love it here. Looking back on it, getting traded here [from Tampa Bay] was a huge blessing in disguise. This organization is a place where, no matter what, they're going to be making moves to be a contender. You want to be a part of an organization that is committed to that." With Chris Pronger sidelined, Carle has become the ice time leader in Philadelphia with an average of just over 23 minutes per contest. He has also chipped in four goals and 28 points from the back end in 53 games, while posting 104 blocked shots.

would have to take a home town discount...tagging space is an issue as well w/ pronger's # counting in the off season and JVR's new contract kicking in among others.

They could agree to terms and then delay the signing until July 1st. Other reports have said that the sides were not close and hadn't done much negotiation

Carle has been very good this year. I dont know if the Flyers are willing to give him $5M per year. If they could work something out close to the contract of Coburn I think the Flyers would sign him immediately. Homer has a tough decision to make.

I was never a huge fan of Carle, but with that said, you cannot doubt his talent. He is a "jack of all trades but master of none" type of d-man. He has decent size (6' 205) good speed, an excellent first pass, plays very good positional defense, and can eat up minutes. A true #2.

If he was an inch taller, 10 lbs heavier, played with a bit of an edge and had a little bit better of a shot, he would be a 6.5 mil a year #1 d-man.
