You definately would have to.

The offense of this team should be willing to take a hit. You deal from an area of strength.

Nobody knows if they are available but dont rush throwing money at JJ. He may very well be able to be obtained in the off-season. Explore the other options first. The Flyers will have to wait for the off-season to do that.

4.35 per is under mkt value for a guy who can improve. he would instantly be our best goal scoring threat from the point and we can't count on carle and all of the other all stars we crave even being available. I don't know the rumors, but at the right price, he's a viable option for the flyers.

Take a look at Kimmo Timonen +/- when he was just starting out in the League in his early to mid 20's. He was a minus player every Season.

Big minus numbers every year hes played. On good teams. Its a valid worry. He can do a lot of good things. I'm just wondering how they would plan to use him/ who he'd pair with.

Young defenseman. Your talking about a kid at 23-24 years of age playing top lines. The more he plays the better he will get.

I'd have no problem with acquiring Hal Gill. He has been very good in the post-season with Montreal. He and Gorges were the one's responsible for shutting down Crosby and Ovechkin when they made their ECF run in 2010.

Talent is talent. The Flyers if they want to trade for a player will have to give up quality. Its whether that player fixes the teams biggest issues and if the money is well spent.

I have to go, going to be late for a night out anyway but I'll just end off with drawing it in the mud.

JJ to me, has a questionable attitude and work ethic. His contract is far too long for a player who doesnt have a complete enough defensive end to his game. He is too soft, and the Flyers need the opposite. Guys who bring a solid defensive game first and foremost and bring consistent snarl.

I dont throw money, and assets away to get a player like JJ.

- flyer_nutter

Where are you getting the information from that Johnson has a qustionable work ethic and attitude. The same thing was said about Voracek before he came here. I hear this all the time from fans who couldn't possibly have any idea what his work ethic and attitude is.

Jaromir Jagr has talent but he is 40 years old. Like I said, there is a big difference between talent and up and coming young talent.

JJ is a young 25 year old defenseman with a cap hit of 4.3M for the next six years. I wouldnt mind if they added a player like him to this roster. The way defenseman are being paid these days its a steal in the long run.

Tim Gleason got a 4M per year deal, cmon.

Look at LA's defense core. How many of their defenseman are on the plus side? Voynov and Mitchell are a +4. The rest are either even or minus.

LA is the 3rd best defensive team in the League. But they are the worst offensive team in the League. They are last in the League in ES goals with 72. Think that contributes to +/-? Johnson plays 22 minutes a night. So how poor of a defender is he?

He is a young talented kid. He may not be the best defenseman in the league but he will get better. Contract, Age, Potential, Need, its something the Flyers should seriously consider if the asking price is right.

If they're moving Johnson, it's unlikely that they move Greene, too.

It's interesting, if they trade for Johnson, what is the cost? Is it just picks/prospects? More likely a pick and a roster guy at least, or a good roster guy like JvR or Voracek.

If they add Johnson, do they move Carle before the season ends? I'd be surprised if they add Johnson and Carle re-signs. If they put Carle on the table, can they get a guy like Boychuk? Or do they try to land a forward for Carle ?

stupid question, but can they switch goalies for the shoot out?

Last night was very frustrating to watch the for the boys it must have been even more so. It was their game and to not win because of a shoot out is a joke.

Going to the game tomorrow first of the season so I can't wait.

The first place I saw anyone mention it was Dennis Bernstein of TFP suggesting a JvR for JJ swap, right after Pronger got hurt.

There's a few rumor guys that have kept the fire warm since. Of course there's guys still milking JvR for Schenn.
