Caputi? injury and stomach virus (I believe) lead to missing major playing time and he never fully physically recovered.

Sad story actually.

As much fun as I know you had writing all of this... you as a Maple leafs fan forgot about a few things...

Myers won a Calder Cup is a big one... Schenn.. not so much

In Myers first year they allowed him to come down from the point and play as if he was another forward.. Last year and still current they do not allow Myers to play overly offensive.. they have been trying to change his game for some time now to be more defensive and well-rounded. He also added 20 lbs onto his frame last off-season (funny how Myers does it in one year and Kadri can't in 3 seasons) which he made well known to have "changed his game drastically" due to conditioning differences needed and loss of some speed.

Its the system

- MillerTime1130

isnt it the calder trophy?

anyways, that is more for #'s than it is for actual performance, a shut down rookie can have a great year but if a offensive dman puts up good amount of points but not have as good of a year as the shut down guy, the guy with the #'s will still win it

its a bad indicator

LOL He was referring to Schenn, not Gunner in the comment you replied too. Now with that being said...try this one...

As players develop, the should be showing signs of improvement in their overall play and ability. Clearly, this is the case in Schenn's development, with seasons as follows;

08/09 - 70GP - 14 ponts (-12)
09/10 - 79GP - 17 points (+2)
10/11 - 82GP - 22 points (-7)**
11/12 - 52GP - 15 points (+10)

**Giguere and Gustavsson played pretty horrible all year and the second half of the year, everyone could see that Schenn picked up his game and FINALLY started playing. Before that...he played like crap for a good portion of the season.

Now..onto Myers;

09/10 - 82 GP - 48 points (+13)
10/11 - 80 GP - 37 points (0)
11/12 - 32 GP - 11 points (-9)

So clearly, while Schenn is trending upwards and still having some serious development issues, Myers is crapping the bed...he is on pace for a -22 roughly right now and about 30-35 points. Not only that, he suffered a pretty serious injury that could (speculation - dont flame) stunt his progression and development further while Schenn has shown that he can take and give the hits out with little harm to himself. Schenn was the league leading defenceman last year in hits and amongst the leaders, possibly is, this year again.

To sum it up...while Myers had a great rookie season, he followed that up with a less than stellar year the following year and closes it out (so far this season) with a dreadful year in 11/12. Schenn, while having his own issues with development, has been on a steady upwards trend since entering the NHL. The problem with Schenn is that it has not been as quick as what most others have believed it to be.

- PrairieLeafFan

Another thing I'd note is both Myers and Schenn had a major change after their first season. Wilson realized that he was wrong to try and play Schenn on the wrong side with Beauchemin and started playing him on this right side. Schenn started to play better. Coincidence? No. Some guys shouldn't ever play their wrong side.

Myers, after his first season, lost his defense partner in Tallinder. His game has declined since. Coincidence? No. Tallinder was a stabalizing force for Myers to do whatever he wanted. The other issue with Myers is when he broke into the league. most players on the other team saw this big, tall and lanky kid and figured "defensive D, has to be." The story has been broken on him now, he will rush the puck and teams are ready now, wehras they never used to be.

Then the Buff system is failing clearly...with declining stats, year over year, I would be concerned. This also begs to question why they are limiting his so called abilities? Could the rookie season be more of an aberration than anything else?

You are pointing to the coaching staff limiting him to playing a certain style that he is not succeeding in then. Why then are they forcing him to do that? Is it because, for all the points he scored in that first year he was considered a defensive liability? No, that wouldn't be correct. Could it be that they changed their coaching style to better suit their forwards? If that is the case...time for Ruff to go because this year Buffalo is playing very weak. Could it be lack of faith in Miller and forcing the defense to hold back more? No, this is the last 2 years you said and Miller was outstanding last year.

No...it is a player than over achieved in their rookie year and has come back down to earth. He will peak in his development shorlty (1-2 years) while Schenn still shows constant and steady improvement that will show he is the stronger of the 2 players.

**Edit - this is not saying Schenn will be a Pronger or a Stevens, this is more to say that Myers will end up being a taller version of Kaberle that may shoot the puck once and a while.

no, but never got back into shape enough last season, and fell down the depth chart and lost his job.

He's on PPG pace with Syracuse now. Could end up getting in with the Ducks later this season if they make some moves.

Yup... you have never watched a Sabres game... They have the most games missed by players in the NHL at 222 games.. Miller has been rocked 4 times this year by hits... he is now playing much better 3-0-1 as of late..

And no they are not losing faith in Miller.. they actually have too much faith in Miller because they DON"T PLAY DEFENSE IN FRONT OF HIM!! lol.. seriously.. they would just stand there and at the faceoff circles and wait for him to pass it out.

Now with Regehr, Myers, and Erhoff all finally back and playing well the whole team is better.. Now Vanek our top scorer is out.. it is a never ending roller coaster...

Seems like similar complaints and arguments that Buff fans have had to listen to Toronto fans say in recent years. Unfortunately for you...tables have turned and the lack of depth outside of your 20-22 players on the ice is nearly deplorable.

Oh, and that no body goalie that Toronto has took one much worse than Miller and missed quite a fair bit of time. As a team, Toronto still managed to fight through it and succeed somehow. Why then, with Enroth playing so well, is the miller thing even an excuse?!?!
