I would do JVR and Florida 3rd for L.Schenn and Toronto 1st. I think its a fair deal. We lose JVR, but the youth on Offense is enough to make up for it, and we gain a second 1st rounder in a deep draft, that can be used to continue to take young defenseman to help replenish the youth on this team. So out of this deal you lose JVR, but you get Schenn, and another top youth defenseman. You may even be able to use your picks to move up in the draft and take a really good guy.
- RooNosHockey

Still dont think I would do it.

I want 2 players in return.. not one player and then a pick for a guy who might end up a dud.

Danny may have been cleared to play late last week but then supposedly had "minor" headaches that went away quickly. Stayed out as a precaution. He said he's been totally symptom free since Saturday.

Saturday wasn't that long ago Bill. Do you feel it's too soon?

JvR will only be traded if Homer wants to upgrade the defense with a top tier defenseman. The issue is where do you get one (who is willing to trade one).
- stveshdy

I wouldn't assume the Flyers want to trade JvR. I would just assume that the Flyers are tempted by the Leafs offer and are toying with the idea.

No way in Hell Toronto sends Schenn AND their 1st for JVR and a 3rd. Maybe if JVR was playing like he was in the playoffs all this year but the fact is the guy is banged up and likely needs surgery.

If you want Toronto's 1st and Schenn it's gonna cost something like Read, a 2nd and maybe a 3rd.

Note: I do not know the behind the scenes stuff, so this is speculation based off of what I have read and what I know from personal exp.

If Danny worked out last week and felt good, but then suffered "minor headaches" it could be semi-related to the actual concussion, but not a worrisome event. The fact that he has been completely symptom free since saturday, and had only a minor headache prior to that would to me show that his concussion is indeed behind him. Doesnt mean that another hit wouldnt mess him up.. but thats the risk he would take regardless of when he returned.

Only one way to know for sure, and thats to get him back into a lineup, IF he indeed feels he is 100% able to.

I understand what you are getting at, but if it is indeed a CAM lesion then it (surgery) shouldnt have any future effects on his play.

JVR isn't concussed. The real reason his head is in a fog:

I dont think the Flyers want to trade JvR at all. However, if you want to trade for a top tier defenseman (who may be available) JvR is going to be needed to complete any type of deal.

If I were the Flyers I would try and sign Suter obviously but its the years that worry me with that contract.

It's strange how things work. Pronger could very much be done, which leaves open space (Obviously not enough) to sign a decent defenseman. Then Timonen comes off the books next summer in time for Weber to become a UFA.

Just because Schenn played on a top line, doesn't mean he is a top defenseman. MAB and Gus have both played on the top line for extended periods of time, does that make them top defensman on NHL team? Schenn has saw his ice time cut, and has even been a coaches decision. I'm not the only on that thinks JVR is worth more in a package... Look at just about every "professional" analyst that has looked at this possibility.
- RooNosHockey

Gustafsson and Bourdon have never played top icetime on the Flyers. JVR has also seen his icetime cut. Development of young defenseman is rarely linear. I've made it clear in previous posts on this thread what I think JVR's value is.

We'll see. Last week he had a minor setback that, a few years ago, he probably would have tried to play through. Have to trust his judgment that he's ready now.

I think that is one of the reasons JVR is being talked about so much. His big raise next year really limits what they can do elsewhere. I know he will be a very good player one year but looking at next year that raise really puts a hamper on things.

We could see a defensive overhaul during the summer. Carle may walk, Pronger may be out again, and you would think the Flyers would like to upgrade the 6th spot.

Will see what happens. The Flyers would like to win a cup this year but I dont know if their ready to take that next step with so many rookies.

See that's the part that worries me. The last time I heard anything about JvR or Briere, they both had setbacks. It's true that we must trust the player but we've trusted players so many times in the past. Jagr for example has pushed his groin many times and has come back much sooner then any of us would expect. Then without surprise, he's sitting again.

Is it terrible that Giroux was in my dream last night and I woke up semi-disappointed because I realized it was a dream and not reality?

You gotta be in it to win it. Surprise teams come out of nowhere in the playoffs all the time. Those Sabers teams where Danny Briere was the star didn't really have much star power. Just good goaltending, a hard working team and a solid system in place. I agree that more changed could be coming but I won't doubt this team just yet. I don't think any other fans would have guessed the Flyers would sneak into the playoffs the very last day and go straight to the final. I mean, Flyers fans knew but no other fans would have guessed. I was told that I either lucky or accused of jumping on the bandwagon on a daily basis up here in Canada.

A top defensive defenseman is certainly more valuable then a top scoring Winger in my opinion.

I would rank the positions as follows in terms of importance

Goalie
Defenseman
Center
Winger

- MJL

the omission of linebacker is telling

You only got a first and a guy that might end up a dud for Carter, who has scored 46 goals and was a consistant 30 goal scorer... How can you justify 2 guys for JVR.

Schenn might be a dud, just as much as JVR might be a dud, just as much as Voracek might be a dud... I dont think JVR and 3rd for Schenn and a 1st is a bad deal for either team.

In terms of building a team, yes.

In terms of value of prospects, no.

- bradleyc4

But yet Luke Schenn, who even in Juniors wasn't a top point producer, was chosen with the 5th overall pick in the draft.

Thanks, but I'll stick to the opinions from hockey analysits that say any deal for JVR would be for a "PACKAGE" that would include Luke Schenn.

That means JVR is expected to land L.Schenn +
