He is a guy who's had Selke nominations, brings a bigger body (though not a mean guy), and can score like nobody's business.

Worth at least exploring.

If they're willing to take back a bit of Salary (Connolly, Komisarek, Lombardi?) and some pieces like Aulie/Kadri... might be something to think about.

- Brian Huddle

Connolly? Not a hope in hell
Komisarek? Not a hope in hell
Lombardi? C'mon, Hudsie, that's the dumbest thing you've ever written here. The Blue Jackets are going to take on his uninsured contract?

People seem to have a disconnect - he signed that long contract as a way to circumvent the salary cap (that's what Burkie hates). So he's a bargain, cap-wise.

He won't show up for the last three years of his contract, and if he does, we can just bury him in the A. According to HNIC, he no longer has a NTC.

If the price is right, let's get him.

- Atomic Wedgie

Technically he'd have just turned 37 when the contract's over, so it's not like he's 41 when it ends. He still might be around at that point.

i spose...leafman never let any shenanigans go on whatsoever, and quite honestly, it needs an injection of idiocy once in awhile to get things fired up......this recent whiskey-tango asshat is just another in a long line of dolts who won't last long because they get beat down so badly or better yet, ignored.
- Barx

i dont mind letting things go for the most part.. but there are some lines that can get crossed imo.. for the most part i just delete the post and move on

I can honestly see them taking back a Komisarek because of the lessened salary next year and they're need for D. We'd have to sweeten the pot, but it MIGHT be do-able if you add in something to make it worth their while (like Nashville did with Franson).

What will it take to get him?
- HipHopisDead

I'm fine with getting him too, if anything, it's probably the perfect time to go after him. At the same time though, now we got two lines going, our goalies going, and our d playing well, I'm fine with not doing anything either.

I really like the idea of having Frattin/Kadri/Colborne all in the AHL right now too. I may even check out some Marlie hockey.

I betting Detroit, LA, and a few others are willilng to make an offer without an albatros attached.

Unfortunately.

I have this strange feeling Calgary lands him, and depletes the remaining prospects in their organization.

slide him on the left side with Grabovski....if Bozak falters, slide him into the top centre slot.....Carter is versitile, low cap hit.
We can move somebody in the off season to make room to resign Grabovski.

unlike nash, another winger with 50-60 points....which I find redundant.

Backlund, Bartschi, Reinhart. And a 1st.

Those would entice some.

Last three years are $3 million, $2 million, $2 million.

So forgive me for typing this, but would you show up at age 35 to play for only $3 million a year? How about training camp when you are 36, for only $2 million a year?

And if salaries get rolled back in next CBA, it becomes even less.

Well worth the risk, IMHO.

And as I wrote above, giving him the Finger treatment is always an option on the table.

Never said that. Although Hall, Ebs aren't prospects in my mind anymore.

But I don't get this idea that Edmonton WILL win a Cup in 5 years because of Pitt/Chi. Florida, Atlanta, NYI, etc. have all tried the same formula and it didn't work.

- Brian Huddle

The fact that bumbling idiots ran these teams for years could explain why these teams have failed at it. Florida up until recently was in the same boat.

Edmonton is better-Any rational human being would take that roster over T.O's.
Yes Toronto will probably make the playoffs, but will go out in the first round with most likely zero wins. EDM may not make the playoffs next year but will have a cup within the next 5 years, the same cannot be said about Toronto.
Thank you.

- Whiskey-Tango

They're going to build a Stanley Cup winning defense out of what they've got within 5 years? How? How much of their cap is going to be tied up in forwards 5 years from now? Will they even have any money to spend on defense and a goalie?

Crazy question: has Nash ever played centre?

Like in junior or at a world cup or at his nephew's 11th birthday party?

No, no, no - that's crazy talk.

Philly doesn't need a good goalie.

No he has never once suited up at centre in his life, even in minor hockey or in a video game.

look at komi's salary.. he must be good

in all seriousness tho.. if burke needs to move komi he should be looking at the isles.. my thinking here is the leafs take back dipietro, stuff him in the minors, and send komi back the other way...

and for this, the islanders toss the leafs a young prospect or a draft pick
