As an outsider to Leaf Nation...
I don't think the Leafs need to make any significant moves this year to be a playoff team in the East. I don't think they are quite at a level to be contenders or anything this year, but a first post lockout playoff appearance seems in reach. I'd look at adding a little offensive depth as long as you don't have to mortgage much in the way of the future. A Dominic Moore redux or a penalty kill specialist would help without having to give up much more then a mid-round pick.

To me, the time where the Leafs can and will make improvements will be at the draft, where they can move a defenseman for a forward and then look at signing a top six forward. No need to mortgage the future when the club probably isn't in a position to be a Cup contender.

Yes Toronto will probably make the playoffs, but will go out in the first round with most likely zero wins. EDM may not make the playoffs next year but will have a cup within the next 5 years, the same cannot be said about Toronto.

Source? Toronto has proven that they can compete hard/ beat any team in the East besides Boston. I wouldn't just jump to that conclusion that they'll have a hard time winning games in the first round if they make it. I also remember 2 or 3 years ago when people said the Oilers would get the cup in 5 years, seems to keep getting pushed back. 5 years is in a while, an entire roster can change.

Never said that. Although Hall, Ebs aren't prospects in my mind anymore.

But I don't get this idea that Edmonton WILL win a Cup in 5 years because of Pitt/Chi. Florida, Atlanta, NYI, etc. have all tried the same formula and it didn't work.
