Yep. Good defensemen never have bad turnovers. EVER.

If they give Carle 5 mil per year I may start rooting for a new team. Did you see his turnover today? Dude is highly overrated.
- FlyerLifer

Believe me.

Im no huge fan. I think he's soft as (frank). You do however need guys that can move the puck. Carle can do so and with the right stay at home guy he is a good d-man. Not 5 million, but what can you do. The market is what it is.

I think hes valuable to the team, but I am far from a huge fan of the guy. Not a guy Id have out with a minute left, up by a goal, in the 3rd by any means.

He's stepped up this season for the most part.

I think Carle is a good defenseman but hes not a guy who makes his partner better and I dont know if I would be willing to give him $5M per year (which he probably will get in free agency).

Its baffling how he always seems to be paired with the new rookie in the lineup.....

Meszaros has really dissapointed this season for me.

He stepped up last year, but for what he makes.. Meh..

It would be a toss up between him and Coburn who I would keep.

Or are paired with green rookies. ever.
- MBFlyerfan

I think that the defense corps get more than their fair share of blame, too. The forwards routinely have bad turnovers and blow their assignments in their own end, and you have everyone playing a lot more minutes than expected because of Pronger's absence.

I dont blame Carle for that. I think he is a good defenseman but I dont think hes a player that makes his partner better (thats just my opinion).

After this weekend, I really hope Homer doesn't sit back.

Speaking for myself, I can't understand how so many could bash certainly players after the pair of losses we had this weekend and then say, we should stand pat. We're 4th in the east and still challenging for first place. I wouldn't give up on this season and by not upgrading the D, I think we're doing just that. I'm not saying the Flyers should make a Shea Weber trade but let's fill in some holes here. Next season is too far away to give up on this one.

Never said that or that he wasn't good. He's not worth 5 mil a year.

i think coburn is the more consistent of the two, but i like meszaros' shot and he can be more physical.

I have no problem with Mezaros at 4 per. Thats a good contract. You have to take that into consideration if you want to keep Carle over him. If Carle is going to get 5 per I'm not paying a mil more per to have his services over Mezaros

My big thing is this.

Out of the big 4 d-men. Carle, Kimmo, Coburn and Mez.

Who has stepped up this season with Pronger out. Kimmo and Carle. Thats who I keep.

Deal one of Coburn or Mez. With Coburn's new extension I think Meszaros is gone. 15 million for Carle, Mez and Coburn. Hell no.

My point was that the coaching staff trusts him to be paired with the kids, and they play better as a result for the most part. Sort of flies in the face of your opinion.

Id keep Mezaros based on the fact he's the only one with a shot from the blueline. The rest have me reminiscing of shooting kids with supersoakers.

I feel sorry for Meszaros. Between flip flopping from Lilja to Gus and then not getting PP time, I feel he's being miss used. The guy need a little help. I also wouldn't underestimate what help O'Donnell really was for him last season and even Carle to some extent.

The problem with that logic is, the market dictates worth. If Tim Gleason is worth $4mm per year, then Matt Carle's likely worth $5mm. Carle's been better this season than both Meszaros and Coburn, and they're both signed to $4mm+ deals.

thing is, i don't know how much a single trade is going to make a difference. it's overall team d, commitment as a group, puck support, and getting reliable goaltending. 1 guy isn't going to make that other stuff happen. and if it took an outside guy to do that, the guys in the room have a serious problem.

You deal them but then what? You are not going to get an equal value Dman in a trade. You will overpay in free agency. There is no one coming up the pipe. They can't just deal these guys to mix up the core.

Do the Flyers really have a choice? Do you think their going to pair Timmonen with Gus or MAB against other teams top lines? That makes no sense at all and doesnt fly in the face of my opinion.

We can do better then Burdon and Gustafsson. I have no doubt that they could easily be replace and the team would benefit from upgrading over both of them.

I don't think he had a bad game. I think he had a bad 5 minutes. But I could really be a guy sneaking out of his bunk at ancora and hijacking the on-duty nurse's internet

I agree with you but it seems like every single year we say the same thing and the Flyers supposively upgrade their 5th and 6th guys but by years end we say the same thing again.

we can't have both at this point. bourdon has regressed every game, and today was just the worst. i don't know why lava put him back out there today. i would have stapled his ass to the bench. a solid vet will help the team, but he, in and of himself, is not going to fix the team d and goaltending issues.
