I heard Stajan, Backlund, this year 1st and 2nd for Carter. - NOAH_U
If Calgary does this they will be hosed on yet another deal. If dumping Erixon in the Rangers laps wasnt enough. Carter is so overated. He is nothing without a great centerman feeding him the puck. The Canadian version of Yashin. |

How about this for a trade between Columbus and Toronto;
To Toronto:
Jeff Carter
1st round pick this year
To Columbus:
Tyler Bozak
Carl Gunnarsson
Nik Kulemin
1st round pick this year
2nd round pick this year
Here is why this could be possible:
For Toronto - Bozak would be expendible with Carter coming in. Gunnarsson is a good, solid D but we have too many and someone has to go (no one is going to take Komisarek plus his cap hit is too high / Franson's salary is too low since both teams are close to the cap). Kulemin is a good strong forward who is having a bad year but again would be expendible. More importantly, these players make the total salaries going either way almost even (about 200k more going to Toronto).
As for Columbus - Carter is easy to explain. But why the 1st pick (1st overall as well)? The top two players in this year's draft are Russians - small market teams don't do well with Russian players (see Radulov & Filatov). So to help Columbus "save face" Toronto would take the 1st overall and draft Yakupov (who would then take Kulemin's spot next season). Columbus gets a decent centre, a top 6 forward and a top 3 D, plus a 1st this year and a 2nd to offset everything. Also, Toronto is taking the massive long contract off Columbus' hands, so they have to give them something decent.
Works for everyone right?

I think the NHL should do away with the salary cap!!! - LeftCoaster
I agree. Mostly because the team I cheer for is one of the richest. Not to mention, having all that money spent on players never helped them before. Let the rich teams spend what they want and just take even more money from them to give to the hand out teams. Pretty simple really. |

Rick Nash to the Isles? Doesn't seem like it would be that bad of a match. We have plenty of prospects to offer for Rick Nash, yet I don't think I am completely sold on him being a true All-Star. I think playing in Columbus has allowed him to "carry" the team, without ever really being an elite player. That being said, he would look great next to a passer like Parenteau on our second line. Since Columbus obviously needs to rebuild, what about a trade like this:
To NYI: Rick Nash and Fedor Tyutin
To CBJ: Josh Bailey, Matt Donovan, Anders Nilsson, 1st Round Pick 2012, 2nd Round Pick 2013
Josh Bailey will fill in the third-line center role that will be vacant. He is very reliable on both sides of the puck and can definitely put up 40+ points in this league when surrounded by the right players. Matt Donovan will be NHL ready next year and will be a reliable 3-4 defenseman. Anders Nilsson has the potential to be a number one goaltender in the NHL very soon. He is 6'5 and very mobile for his stature. Plus, Columbus doesn't really have anyone behind Steve Mason, who is struggling, that could be a future number one in Columbus. The first round pick will be in the top half of the draft, and could help Columbus speed along the rebuild. |
