Red Wings looking at goose ?

Detroit Red Wings scout Kirk Maltby has been following the Buffalo Sabres around. Could the Wings have an interest in Sabres forward Paul Gaustad? If it's not Gaustad, Canadiens winger Travis Moen could fit the bill for added grit for the Wings "¦ You think the Boston Bruins are happy the Carolina Hurricanes aren't going to make the playoffs? ... I'm a Rush fan and all I could think of was the song "Time Stand Still" after the Los Angeles Kings clock fiasco. Apparently a Blue Jackets fan suggested it be played March 8 when the Kings visit the Jackets. That would be outstanding.

Hahaha how is that worse than trading CHARA and SPEZZA for YASHIN? How about LUONGO and JOKINEN for PARRISH and KVASHA and drafting DiPietro instead of Heatley or Gaborik? Stop seriously overvaluing prospects. At some point, the Islanders will need to pick which prospects are staying and which will go to address needs at the NHL level; Milbury just was horrible at judging which prospects would be good and which would suck. But I can't believe you seriously think trading Bailey (good third liner), De Haan, Lee, and a pick, for an NHL all-star and top 4 d-man is worse than Mad Mike's moves. Stop it.
- isles10289

You can play monday morning quarterback all you want, but at the time Yashin was a dominant player in the league. His stats when the isles traded for him were elite. He was coming off two 40 goal seasons. Noone liked any of Milburys trades obviously but on paper trading two prospects for a 40 goal scorer is better than trading 2 prospects for a 20 goal scorer.

Bailey hasn't been a disappointment- people just expected way too much out of him. He is phenomenal in his own zone, and is a great penalty killer. He's only 22 so hopefully his offense will pick up but he's already a very solid third line center. Honestly, looking at the past ninth overall picks, if Bailey becomes a solid third line center, the Islanders will have done alright. Plus, by trading down for him, they landed Hamonic so I like the 2008 draft for the Isles.
- isles10289

If xXx had written this. I'd say its Bait and wouldnt touch it with a 10 foot pole.

But I assume your serious so I'll address the....
Contradictions!!!! Is he Phenomenal? GREAT? A very solid third line center? Or becoming a solid third line center?????

I guess this Fantastic 1st round Defensive specialist with his combined 4 yr total of 39 goals, 62 assists and a SPARKLING PLUS MINUS OF - 34 has been completely misjudged by Isles fans.

So, in conclusion, Josh Bailey is the Greatest, Solid, third line Phenom center in the making.

Josh Bailey should be the islanders 2nd line center..........PERIOD. Give him those minutes with real wingers and watch what happens. I bet you he and Rhett Rhakshanni start to gel, and produce....

Yeah playing with garbage like rolston, or being moved to the wing when he's a center really helped his development. How about the minute he played with hard working ulstrom and Martin......all of a sudden his line was generating offense. Coincidence? I think not. Has this organization EVER given bailey real wingers? Heaven forbid they moved him to the second line and flanked him with Grabner and niño

bailey is being misused. Period!

He was the best player available with the pick and we scooped him up....yeah we needed a center or two but you pick the best player available center, winger, D-man yadda yadda.

If we were to pick 5 or 6 this year I hope they either try and move up to grab Grigorenko...but if not I want to see Dumba in a Sabres jersey. Its better to have a higher quality prospect to use as a trade asset IMO

You're talking about giving up basically 4 first round draft picks (Anders Lee to me is one of the isles top prospects, so I took the liberty of adding him to the "first round" label) for two average NHL players. I like both Pommenville and Regher, but dont make on like they are top tier players worth giving up two first round picks for each of them. Pommenville is a 20 goal scorer, and Regher's career stats are VERY unimpressive. Neither of them have won anything to my knowledge.
Josh Bailey is NOT a 3rd line center, and trading away the last few years first round picks (minus strome) goes against EVERYTHING this rebuild is about...........hence my milbury refernce.
For the record making it to the all star game means nothing...........the fans vote for it..........so you stop it. You're throwing in names without thinking about it

- kindlyrick

At some point, the Islanders need to convert prospects into NHL players. Since when do all prospects pan out? I never said they were top tier players, but they are really good NHL-ers. A top line winger and a top 4 d-man RIGHT NOW. You're giving up a few young players, who may very well be nothing. Let's talk in 5-10 years and see where all these guys ended up. I'm willing to sacrifice some prospects from the highest end farm system in the NHL right now for some real players who could help us turn the corner.

It's called chemistry. Don't focus so much on first line, second line, etc. Let's find the best mix of four lines we can.
