OMG a 6-0 game between two divisional rivals got nasty? How shocking!

Sweet Jesus, both teams have histories of nasty play, let's not act like either the Flyers or the Devils aspire to play like the Little Sisters of the Poor hockey team.

- Jsaquella

There's a fine line between nasty and downright dirty and classless in my opinion. Shoves after whistles and checking every time you get a chance is nasty, however, slewfooting and doing what Hartnell did is on another level of classlessness.

You on a CPU or Ipad/IPhone.

Look on hockeyfights for the Kovalchuk/Schenn fight, the slewfoot is shown before that and then just look at Zubrus' goal on NHL network and you can see Hartnell's episode during it.

I'm on a computer. I'll probably catch the highlights later, but considering it was a an impending blowout in a divisional game, I'm not surprised it got ugly. These things aren't new or particularly rare, this is the very stuff of rivalry.

To be fair, Briere probably doesn't remember the hit either. The difference is his memory loss is, in my judgement, more unfortunate and less intellectually convenient. But then, as I said, I didn't watch today's game, I only heard it on the radio.

Did you listen the game on the radio?

Those refs sucked! Hartnell should be allowed to lumberjack slash someone and then immediately cross check another player in the face. Don't even get me started on Rinaldo slew footing or hitting a guy mid-ice 3 seconds too late. How are those penalties?

I swear, the league just hates the Flyers.

- nyy

Didn't have a problem with any of those calls. They were good calls. The non call on Giroux getting tripped, leading to a shorthanded goal against the Flyers, however was not a good decision by the officials.

I agree, but than at the same time, a slew foot which directly lead to two goals for the Flyers because our two top defensive defenseman were in the box, essentially negates that one.

Your overreacting to what Hartnell did . Not a big deal. I think you'll find that most Flyers fans aren't happy and don't condone what Rinaldo did.

Again, I'm sure that we could go through time and look at the rivalry and find plenty of example of dirty play on both sides. Let's not act like the Virgin Mary.

You're right, cross check to the face is no big deal. It's one thing to throw clean hits or fight when you're down big. But when you do things like slew foot our best player, or attack players with obvious intent to injure, that's going over the line.

Sorry, but it doesn't negate that at all. Devils wouldn't have scored the shorthanded goal, and the Flyers could have scored on the 5 on 3. A correct call there could have altered the game significantly. No one forced the Devils D men to take a penalty there.

He did four things in less than 10 seconds. He punched a guy in the head twice, then he delivered a very late hit, slashed the guy in the hands, and then after the goal he decides to cross check someone in the face. Quite frankly, his karma bit him in the ass as he should've been where Zubrus was on that play and we scored on the ensuing PP.

I'd prefer to watch the highlights later and see everything at once. I'm neither condoning nor denying the occurrence of a slewfooting, though.

That is mostly before the lockout.

After the lockout, the stuff that wasn't considered dirty now is. However, you would have to agree that slewfooting is frowned upon tremendously (like masturbating on an airplane. ) and has no place in hockey.

First of all it was a high stick, not a cross check. And a high sticking penalty isn't that unusual. And if it as as grevious as your making it out to be. It would have resulted in more then a minor penalty.

Just watch the first 20 seconds or so, it doesn't show any highlights, all you see is the slewfoot and the ensuing scrum.

It was called a high stick. However, his stick crosschecked Bernier in the face, it could be called either way.

I agree. Hartnell acted like a complete idiot on that shift and completely lost his cool. The Flyers poor discipline today was a big contributing factor in the loss.

I really don't care. What is it you want from me, a written apology on behalf of Zac Rinaldo and the Flyers franchise and fanbase?

Rinaldo's play was uncalled for without question. I suspect Shanahan will be taking a look at it. I don't think it is suspension worthy, but based on Rinaldo's reputation I wouldn't be surprised if he got a game or two.

As far as on the ice goes, Kovalchuk handled things the way teams should. He pounded an opposing player. That was a rag doll bullying of the highest order.

What does it matter if it was prior to the lockout or not?

I agree about the slewfoot. It doesn't have any place in hockey.

Seems reasonable. I'm surprised community service hours weren't included
