Depends... guys like Briere and Hartnell get in good positions and shoot a lot as well. The argument was completely semantical in nature (go figure), with guys saying he wasnt a true sniper like a Stamkos, etc...

I personally dont care how you score goals as long as you score goals, but can understand the argument. Who would you rather have shooting the puck in the open slot.. a Stamkos, AO, Gaborik, Kovalchuk... or Carter.

I think it's asinine to debate whether a guy is a sniper or not, the fact is, he scores a lot of goals. People like to pick that guy a part for some reason. Now that he's gone, I really don't care, but my all time favorite Jeff Carter argument is this one:

Question:
Does Jeff Carter score a lot of goals?

Answer:
Yes.

Argument:
They are meaningless goals in games that don't matter. All of them.

To be fair, it was not suggested that Carter is/was the best sniper. Of course, I think the idea of debating a subjectively defined tag such as sniper to this degree is indeed semantic and superfluous.

Definitely not the THE TOP sniper, that's for sure.

Didn't catch the whole game, but it sounded like a good one. Glad to see Bryz with 2 strong games. I wonder which game he will get this weekend? I'd like to see him start Saturday to keep the momentum going, but the Rangers game is going to be a huge. I'm not sure what I would do. If we can take away 4 points this weekend that would be awesome, but I'm mostly concerned with finally beating the stinkin' Rangers.
- funmaster18

No reason he can't start both games. Just had a week off and should be able to handle both weekend games. Only reason to have them split would be to get Bobrovsky some time so he doesn't lose his dance moves.

The way he has acted in Columbus this year with the sulking, and constantly being injured gives a lot of fuel to the people who like to rip the guy.

My take on Carter is he's a good player, not great. He can score goals in bunches, but has a habit of disappearing in big games. His playoff numbers fall of a cliff compared to his regular season numbers.

Yep. He's a nice a player to have on your team, but not a guy you build around like they had hoped.

Definitely not. He did have other elements to his game that I liked, though. I'm definitely glad we're not dealing with his injury struggles, though, and I'm more than content with what we got for him.

I'd love to see him get both. I don't buy into the tired stuff. Last night was what, Lindback's 6th start this year?

I think for the needs that the Flyers had, that trade was a slam dunk for us.

That's about the size of it. Flyers made two good hockey trades.

I absolutely agree. One could say he is a sniper compared to Chodie Shelley, and a power forward compared to Gaborik..

The terminology is completely open to ones own interpretation. At the end of the day.. he can score goals in an assortment of ways.

With Marshall being shipped out, Bobrovsky is going to have to inherit the top dancer role in the franchise.

Would you trade Coots and Voracek for Carter? Not a chance in hell I would. (but it would be cool to be able to sport my carter jersey again )

To truly paraphrase.. some posters didnt think saying Carter was a sniper was completely accurate, but that he posted goals because he gets in good positions and shoots a lot. They said he wasnt a true sniper like Stamkos.

Some just like to manipulate things..

- jak521

But again its all gray area... people define Sniper different ways. As a matter of fact, does it even matter if you call him a Sniper or Goon as long as he is scroing 30-40 goals a season? Who care's about "definations". Carter scored a lot of goals a season, and he took a lot of shots... He is a goal scorer. Period.

It certainly looks great for us thus far. However, Couturier falling to the 8th spot was a case of the Hockey Gods paying us back for losing on Kane. At the time I was expecting more for a 30-40 goal scorer. Simmonds production is also something that couldn't be predicted. A few of us said he would have 20 this year (myself included to toot my own horn) but it was anything but a lock to happen. He could have been a nice grinding, hitting, fighting, 3rd liner and potted 12 goals and it wouldn't have been surprising.

Conclusion to a run on thought: things have worked out for us really well, but hindsight is 20/20.

I was about to say just that, that the overarching term "goal scorer" is really the one that counts. More importantly, the term "not a Philadelphia Flyer anymore" is the one that matters to us

He's trying to force a trade by being a douche from everything I have read.
