Calgary won't get what Iginla is worth with his NTC. So he will probaly stay until his contract is up. That being said I think he still is a top player and on the Pens he can do some serious damage. I haven't watched that many games this yr so I dont know how bad Martin has been, but from what I've seen I wouldn't exactly say he's been a liability, maybe overpaid but the Leafs are paying Colby $3mil/yr so I guess it's fair. What do you think Parise is worth? That's a player I would love to see on the Pens. |

EK mentioned adam burrish in his blog =). im telling you he'd be a great fit with the pens. i would not add morrow to any deal. harrington maybe if we got something good back. martin, kennedy, harrington and a 2nd rd. pick for iginla and a depth player |

I dont think we were fortunate with Esposito--there were concerns about him when he was drafted which is why he fell to the Pens in the first place. From all the reports, he had a poor work ethic and I think some off the ice issues. I agree on not dealing Morrow, but I also think Shero knew exactly what he was unloading when he sent Espo packing to Atlanta. - Rawdog9755
That trade still amazes me. Colby Armstrong, Christensen, Esposito, and a 1st for Hossa and Dupuis. Say what you want about Hossa not wanting to stay in Pitt, but him and Crosby for that brief moment was pretty freakin awesome! ATL got absolutely 0 out of that deal. |

not to mention dupuis, for all his frustrating play at times, has been pretty damn useful. |

JT: I don't think the Pens have a fit for Iginla. He's an iconic player in Calgary and if the Flames don't get someone to essentially overpay, there will be a riot. Shero is NOT going to overpay, so I think its a moot point.
What the Pens really need is some secondary scoring from a guy in the Ryan Malone mold or at the very least a forward in the Mike Rupp mold who brings some grit and sand paper to the table, especially since Asham once again can't seem to get healthy. (I've long thought Shero made a rare mistake in letting Rupper get away. They miss him badly on the bottom six)
I think its far more likely the Pens package some combination of Kennedy, a draft pick, and of of the other young WBS d men (Sneep, Bortuzzo etc) for a couple players along those lines.
*edit* Also forgot to mention, that the Pens aren't going to target Ignila, specifically BECAUSE his salary will be on the books an extra year, and that money needs to go to Neal. - Emperor Filonius
Rupp was the one player I really wanted back but he isn't worth what the Rangers paid him and I'm glad the Pens didn't give him that. To me the bigger mistake was letting young Nick Johnson go and keeping injury-prone Asham instead.
I would love to have Iginla here but the pieces just aren't there to make it a good trade for Calgary money-wise. The Pens have the propsects to deal away if they really wanted to but why would they want an overpaid defensemen in Martin when they already have one in Bouwmeester? For me the main issue, as was mentioned in other comments, is they need the money to keep a much more younger James Neal around for years to come. It really wouldn't surprise me to see Shero pull off a major deal like this but it's such a long shot right now.
I remember reading somewhere that Espisito was once again traded. Wasn't that guy at one time ranked #1 in the draft rankings? His career, if you want to call it that, has been non-existent. |

id rather add sutton or gill and moen or even doan , I think we miss mike rupp and we need someone to clear the net and another big d man would be great for the playoffs and the pounding they could put out. |

If it could be for Kennedy, Martin and Morrow like in the blog, I would do it in a second to get Iggy.
First off, it gets us out of 3 years of Martin at 5 ( ), then we don't change the cap too too much. While, I don't like unloading Morrow, the player is Iginla that matters in this. Our first top line would have Crosby and Iginla (probably with Duper), the other first line would be Kunitz, Malkin and Neal (which is probably the highest scoring line in hockey). We lose someone on the D in Martin, but he is not worth 5, and we can send a pick to someone at the deadline to replace em, and sign someone else at 2ish, play Niskanen more or have Despres in. All of which are okay by me.
For Calgary, I don't see them doing this.
And for people saying they would want Staal or Neal, I would not trade either even up for Iginla. |

and martin has been better than michalek for the most part. He does a great job keeping the puck in zone and he really doesnt hurt us in the defensie zone. but I dont know why we want to deal either for a winger we dont really need, this team needs to get healthy. We just built this d unit last year and with letang out everyone played worse. |

If we were going to give up a huge hall for a player I would prefer suter or dare to dream parise. |

personally id rather go after parise as well. the only problem is that the best trade piece we have is martin for a big deal and i dont think the devils would want him back. we would have to give up michalek, kennedy, and a 1st, and thats just a start. id guess a high prospect like bennet or morrow as well |
|
|
|
i dont even know why we are talking about trading for parise. Lou already said he wont be traded and the Devils are in a playoff race... they wont trade their captain.
if you want to take a chance with him in offseason... fine. but there is no point in trading for a guy that is heading for UFA. |

Iggy is the type of player that will put your team over the top. He plays a complete game, and instantly puts size and grit into your top six without sacrificing any of the skill requirements of the position.
The packages on here are very low offers, which is fine because pittsburgh healthy can compete with anyone, but it also makes an iggy trade a pipedream, and it's sort of disrespectful to a surefire hall of famer.
The guy is 35, not 39, and is on pace for another roughly 30G/30A season playing with total scrubs, and basically putting that abysmal roster on his back and willing them into playoff contention as the captain.
If you want a guy like that, you pay. We'd be talking more along the lines of:
Martin/Michalek
Kennedy/Kunitz
Morrow/Despres
1st/2nd round pick (depending on which player in the first two options goes)
Or, you could take out the bottom three items and throw in Staal and a third, which would be dumb from the pens part but it is what it would take.
If you want to trade a steady but unspectacular defenceman and a 2nd/3rd line grit player (which calgary's whole fwd corps is already basically) for iginla, you need to actually add some value in at the end, which is not one of tangradi or morrow.
Do you not remember what Hossa cost? Sure, he was younger, but he was an impending UFA....it was your top prospect, your 1st rnd pick, and two tyler kennedy/kunitz types, for those who have forgotten. - TommyDeVito
This is right on the mark, IMO. The only way Iggy would actually come to Pittsburgh is if Crosby went on long term injured reserve, then we could afford him. However, since it's not an end of contract year, even that scenario is unrealistic.
Perhaps two factors are feeding this fantasy:
One, it would be nice to see Iggy get a cup. Pure and simple, he is a guy who gives heart and soul, game in and game out. To see him lift the cup above his head would just be unreal.
Secondly, we lack our star, Sid and all the tenacity and grit that we are accustomed to seeing when he plays. Our secondary lines lack some size and grit as well. Iggy feels right in this situation but the truth is it is not as right as it seems.
Still, I hope one day he will hold the cup above his head. |

The thing is that many Oiler fans and trade rumours have him being the first person out of town. Even before Hemsky. I believe that he could be a #2 center for them if he could get his game to be more consistant. Not 21 games without a goal, then 8 points one night.
They named him the 1st, 2nd and 3rd star.
Also Hall and Eberle each had 4 points. That is why Oiler fans are excited for the future. |
