The Florida Panthers trade the 1st pick (Marc-Andre Fleury) and 73rd pick (Daniel Carcillo) to the Pittsburgh Penguins for the third pick (Nathan Horton), the 55th pick (Stefan Meyer) and Mikael Samuelsson. - canadianpenfan
Horton was a pretty decent pick up but that's about it. I'll take Fleury

#Pens coach Bylsma: Asham still having symptoms. Staal, Despres and Crosby will make trip -Sam
No idea the significance of Crosby going, but its nice to have the captain with the team. Last trip he went on was pretty successful. - Gunner Staal
Once despres is healthy will he stay up?? Or u think lovejoy or nisk or even Martin be moved? But if they r moved for another D like gill or hannan where does despres fit in again....

I don't know to be honest. It really depends on what Shero does before the deadline passes. I am comfortable with Despres getting bottom 6 playoff minutes. He has shown nothing to make me think otherwise, he was calm with the decisions he made and played a simple game, that sounds like an asset for playoff hockey.

im wondering bc as a 2way player you would think he would be down with WB/S getting more ice time once he is off IR...

I like him. I wouldn't mind making room for him at this point. His rookie deal has already started, I would rate him above Lovejoy and Engelland right now.

Unless there is a roster move, he's gotta go down.
Even if there is a minor move (Lovejoy or Niskanen), and the top four is intact, I would still send him down for at least a while. I'd rather have him playing 30 minutes a night in WBS, than playing 13 minutes here on a third pairing.

I just looked up the Penguins average time on ice for some of the defensemen and Niskanen gets 18 a game and Engelland gets 16, so there may be more ice time for Despres than appears.

IMO id put him and tanger on points on PP let sulli be on the second pairing...
it would make our PP less sustainable to a shorty with 2 D at the points...
now if only we can find a righty for the left half boards...

True... he'd probably get Niskanen's 2nd unit PP time, and maybe even a little PK time.
I guess I don't feel all that strongly either way lol... Either way, a defensemen has to be moved to make keeping him up a possibility.

Never, never underestimate good talent with young legs in the playoffs my friend.

As a fan of the Oilers I hate the 03 draft. They traded the 17th pick to New Jersey for the 22nd pick and the 68th pick.
It doesn't seem that bad until you put names into. Then it reads as "They traded Zach Parise to New Jersey for Marc-Antoine Pouliot and Jean-Francois Jacques. Jacques sucked in the Q, sucked in the AHL, and still sucks in the NHL, even though he as back to the AHL. Pouliot's numbers were inflated because he was playing with a player than the Penguins eventually drafted named Sidney Crosby.
It's dumb moves like that, that were pulled by Kevin Lowe tha set the Oilers organization back. I know prospects are a crapshoot, but even then you could guarentee that Parise was going to be better than both Pouliot and Jacques.
