He pretty much did that at the start of the game when he decided that we're not good enough to go head to head with the Red Wings. Passive pathetic b!tch-ass approach to a game where we should have gone out there and made them react to OUR style of play.
- DrChristianTroy

I'm getting pretty sick of it myself. Like the Nashville series where our gameplan was to out Pred the Preds.

Funny, Chicago, who just two nights ago were perfect angels took seven minor penalties tonight (ok, one was a bench minor, so six).
- 1970vintage

It really is astonishing. 8-1 powerplays in favour of Detroit the last 2 games against them.

This is stunning : @BarryRozner: Sam Gagner had as many goals tonight as Patrick Kane has in his last, wait for it...33 games.

Gagner had, wait for it a FREAKING 8 POINT NIGHT. Needless to say there are many angry Hawk fans myself included on JJ'S BLOG.

[quote=LeftCoaster]So is it fair to say Luongo pulled a Corey Schneider and stole a point for the Canucks tonight? Give credit where it's due I guess!
- VANTEL[/

This is true but to stir the pot would Schneider have let in the 3 rd goal .Maybe it would have been a regulation win. That said Luongo was very good tonight and for the last month and a half.

How can you say that? thats the beauty of hockey... no one knows... it could have been 6 to 2 for detroit if schneider was in net... or 4-0 for vancouver. Luongo stole that point... to be within 1 goal after those 2 garbage periods is unbelievable... canucks should be embarrassed.

So now they won't even call a highstick? Amazing.

Im willing to bet that no team in the NHL this year has gone 2 games in a row at home with only 1 powerplay this season. I think this is the 2nd time for the Canucks.

- hertzman

The Sens went back 2 back games without a PP last season I think. It may actually have been early this season even.

If this illness that Higgins is suffering from continues (long term), when does Gillis say it's time to get a replacement for him?

AV was a dud tonight. First the starting line up and then the shoot out. Maybe Kesler and Cody score or we at least push for another round or something. It stinks of the night AV threw Bieksa out for first shooter after a brutal 60 minute performance. Like Edler in the shootout...no effort on the 1st shot at all.

Were they both home games though? Statistically home teams get more powerplays.

AV said it was the flu, so shouldn't be long term.

Howard is the best goalie in the shootout this year. It didn't really matter who AV put out there.

Where I think AV was a dud was not telling his players to go all or nothing in overtime. Send 4 guys deep if we have to, because there was no shot they were winning that shootout.

Agreed... but starting out with edler was just so stupid. Why is he so stupid?

Edler did score in the shootout the game before...and we don't get to see how they do in practice. Personally, I would have started Hodgson, but again, Luongo wasn't going to stop Datsyuk or Hudler.

I would have gone with Hodgson for sure in my top 2. Kesler was flying and you know he always plays hard against his hometown team so why not him as well. Raymond would have been my third choice.

Why not give the Sedins a shot again? Maybe they have some new(decent) moves now.

How about Booth? not sure if I have even seen him attempt... but he played solid.

Agreed on Hodgson as a shooter. The guy has a Brett Hull shot. Burrows should shoot first every game. I cringed when I saw Edler lining up to shoot. He's not a one-on-one shooter AV, get over that idea.

He's got a good shot, but I'm not really impressed with his puckhandling skills so he might be too predictable. Worth a shot though at this point. No worries anyways, there's no skills competition during the real season.

I gotta say I nearly fell off my chair when I heard that. A special achievement against a good team. It's amazing how many people are trying to cheapen the achievement as anything but spectacular over on the main blog. Lots of hating going down.

I think Raymond faking the spinner was a good idea but he lost the puck...

I bring Edler in as a 4rth or 5th shooter. I start with Kes because his shot is on right now, follow up with Hodgson and then Raymond. I probably go Burrows before Edler @ # 5...

They didnt deserve the 1st point let alone a second anyways.

There also comes a time when you simply throw in Henrik or Daniel in the shootout because they're your best players.

It's getting tiresome seeing these results. The Canucks were owned.

They're coasting and it's gonna cost them if they don't compete soon! A little Gillis shake-up should fix that

I agree that is a little surprising. But the Wings (last I checked) were still the least penalized team in the NHL again this year. They have a lot of smart veterans and their puck-possession style allows them to take less penalties than a lot of teams. That will hopefully translate to goals in the playoffs. But there are still some nights when they take a lot of bone-headed penalties.

The last two games against the Hawks we have had ZERO powerplays. Against the Hawks? It's one thing to put the whistle away but they don't. Instead, they fabricated calls.

Clipping for a shoulder to chest hit? The refs had a chance to smarten up after realizing it was a bad call but instead of fairness,,,,you get another weak fukcing call....

The last two times we played Detroit the penalties have been 8-1. Is this a bit skewed?? Four games against our biggest conference rivals and we get one damn PP. This is not coincidence. The last time we played Detroit we should have had a bunch of PP's. I know Detroit is the least called but the teams were playing dirty against eachother and only one team was being punished for it.

The one really obvious call that I remember was the Kindl interference on Burrows. Burrows never touched the puck, gets bodycheked and goes down in the neutral zone while the puck flys by for icing. It's a clear call.
