Weber is a fantastic player, but at $7/million+ per season, his value diminishes.

Giroux, at $3.75 million/year, has his value increased by his contract.

Webers new contract actually could lower his cap hit. I dont think his contract dimishes his value.

Girouxs contract is a steal but he will also need to be redone (2 yrs) and that contract wont be light in the pockets.

Weber's new contract could lower his cap hit. But likely at the cost of excessive years, still lowering his overall value.

I think their are plenty of teams that would be willing to invest in a 26 year old Shea Weber even if his contract is at 10 years. He is in his prime and is an elite defenseman, those guys are hard to find.

Edit: If Richards and Carter still had good value, so will Weber.

Not saying he won't still have good value.

In my opinion that doesn't lower his value at all. He's 26. That's a player I'd be extremely comfortable signing to a 10 year deal, with low salary on the back end to lower the AAV.

I would choose the 21 year old who has 2 fewer points on the season.

I wouldn't feel comfortable signing any NHL player for 10 years. But that's because I still have tons of student loan debt and would have no real purpose for signing a hockey player.....

I would never be comfortable (let alone "extremely") signing any player to a 10-year deal. Just a difference of philosophy/opinion.

Interesting. Could be coming in for Gus too I suppose. He's been struggling a bit lately too.

Do you expect Suter to resign?
- stveshdy

No. Many fans are ok with it (as I am). We don't want to let him go for a song though. We have so much potential in our younger d-men right now that we'd be ok in the long run. Our organization shouldn't pay Suter what other teams are willing to pay...Gotta moneyball this mess.

MAB has been pretty brutal of late (imo). I think he comes out and Lilja goes in.. if not just to give Bourdon a game to watch from above, and Lilja a stay fresh game.

I'd be ecstatic to have a dominating Norris Trophy level #1 defenseman locked up for 10 years. There is very little risk there.

Little risk in a 10-year investment? Not sure how you reached that conclusion. Injury-history or not, 10 years invested in ANY athlete is a high-risk move. Especially for a defenseman who likes to throw his body around. I'm not denying that he's the most likely candidate for a 10-year contract in the NHL; I'm simply stating that no player should be given that many years.
