There was?!? (not a shot at you, I'm trying to be less of an assclown/donkey dolt today)
- Flyskippy

The season summer before Danny Briere, Kimmo Timonen, Scott Hartnell, Joffery Lupul and Jason Smith ended up here, there was no Bill. It seemed like Tim had a good time making his guess as good as any. Of course he would guess strange things like Sami Kapanen being the next Captain of the Flyers, when the majority felt like it belonged to Simon Gagne. His blogs just seemed less harsh and less judging of the team. Now a days, it seems as if he thinks his words are the end all be all.

good lord. so what did your friend do?

I don't think he ever made it a legal matter.

He just ended up taking a different job and purchasing another house in the area.

It was a teaching gig.

They never caught the mistake. Some secretary mailed out the letter(s) and it wasn't until he called them to ask about something that this whole fiasco got discovered.

from pierre lebrun:

Tim Gleason was high on Philadelphia’s list of possible defensemen for purchase but that won’t happen with the Carolina Hurricanes' re-signing him Monday.

So what now for Philadelphia?

One name to keep an eye on is veteran blueliner Hal Gill in Montreal. He’s slated to be an unrestricted free agent July 1, and, from what I was told Tuesday, the Flyers covet his experience -- he’s won a Cup -- as well as his shot-blocking and penalty-killing abilities. The Habs aren’t ready to pull the plug on their season just yet, but if and when they do, expect the Flyers to inquire about him.

Another possibility for the Flyers is Nicklas Grossman in Dallas. He’s slated for unrestricted free agency July 1. The Stars have begun talks on an extension, so that’s another possibility -- that, like Gleason, he signs and stays put.

And of course, as previously reported, the Flyers did chat with the Maple Leafs about Luke Schenn a few weeks back.

On TSN

Desperate to Deal

TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger was on the NHL on TSN panel last night to discuss the Maple Leafs trade situation leading up to the deadline. Dreger said that Leafs GM Brian Burke is desperate to make a move and will take a run at Philadelphia Flyers forward James Van Riemsdyk.

Well remembered. Of course, I think the Flyers made the right decisions coming out of TSTSNBN. I forgot how straight-laced Tim was that summer of 2007. I must have been too busy wanting Scott Hartnell to sign here on 7/1.

I think it's really unfair to the Philadelphia hockey fans.

The lack of hockey knowledge and overall lack of understanding of the game and the need to dramatize every little thing is beyond foolish.

- Buts16

I don't agree on all of that. Yes, there is a basic understanding of the game that some of them lack that is incredibly embarrassing.

However, the drama that they're accused of creating is bogus. If you look back five years ago you couldn't accuse them of that and if you look at this season I think it's more subdued. There was a lot going on behind the scenes with this team the last three years and it was a concern in the front office, with the former coach and certainly with the media. Were they creating the drama with Carter and Richards or were they reporting it and commenting on it?

Those two and their interactions within the team and with the media was a train wreck that needed to be addressed. Their attitudes gave the media no reason to attempt to protect them. You act like an @$$ you can't get upset when you're called one.

What upset fans I think, was that on the ice the team was winning so they didn't want to hear about the warts that would eventually lead to the team being at first slowly torn apart then blown up last summer. You can't say the writers didn't tell you it was coming and reporting while it was happening. I'm pretty sure that's their job.

Like his word is the final word.

The difference between Bill and Tim is, Bill is a young writer who speaks from his own point of view and he interacts with the rest of his readers with an open mind.

the problem is that they insert themselves into the story and it starts to become, in part, about them and becomes even more of a distraction.

That was the movie that made me really like John C. McGinley. It indirectly made me a Scrubs fan.

As for the "feel" of the movie, the mortgage company I worked for, from 1999 - 2001, was much like it. Nary a day passed without hearing someone say, "This place is just like 'Office Space.'"

To which I would reply, "Sounds like someone's got a case of the 'Mondays.'"

I was also very new to the site at the time, so I could be wrong. From my point of view he didn't seem that bad. Tim was the only beat writer we had back then. He's still not as bad as Garth. Garth in my mind is horrid. It's amazing he has a job. Poor Sabers fans.

I think they're horrible and create drama that isn't there and report nonsense and the lack of hockey knowledge is laughable.

Tim with Zherdev last year.

Sam always digging at Richards and calling him names which was very unprofessional. I'm not saying Richards handled well, I;m also not talking about Richards I'm talking about the media.

I don't live in the Philly area so maybe I'm off on base on this but I think they are a joke.

I'm not including Bill in any of the above.

Yes. When they start to become the Philly version of Larry Brooks, Larry Wigge, or Bruce Garrioch, that's when I have had enough.

i agree with Mayor and Hammarby...
it's a little of both. I want them to write about the story not give their opinion because when they do, some write like the sky is falling and others write like their trying to make more of the story than what's there...
We as fans sometimes come across that we know more and if you put them together it's bad mix.

I just enjoy clicking on every internet page and see all the beat writers, come up with the SAME story.
