one of my biggest frustrations last nite was the inability of the flyers to get the puck behind the jet d. either they tried to make the fancy play or they failed to get pucks deep on simple dump ins. some of these plays were likely a result of the layoff, but it put the team in an awkward transition scheme much of the first two periods.

I also hated the lines, but I get why lavi jiggered w/ the fist unit at least. I love that schenn looks good at the dot, but right now I prefer him at wing, because he gets into more trouble w/ turnovers when he plays C. don't get the Shelley/sestito combo
at all. I want my 4th line to get in on the forecheck and zac or z would make more sense...I know at least z was healthy.

that was most bothersome to me. trying to move the puck through a pile of bodies at the line and turning it over instead of chipping in along the wall.

sniper usually means high shooting percentage there slugger. The higher amount of shots you take, the higher your goal total. It's simple mathematics...just like when you goto a bar, you probably approach 100 women and only get lucky with 1 or 2. So, my explanation should make more sense to you.

Then we should just tell Voracek or Simmonds to shoot 300 times a Season, and they will both instantly turn into 35-40 goal scorers!

They just didn't play that game the right way last night. Hopefully it's just some rust from the All Star break.

The team had a true sniper. They traded him. Not just in reply to this but in general, just like on the other thread. Second guessing and criticizing the Coach on shootouts is crazy. If they win, cool. If they don't let's criticize the Coach. Anybody want to put any blame on the players? How about they score 2 goals in the game and forget about the shootout?

You said that better than I did (last night). I was ornery.

Great to hear the good news about your Son Bill!
- MJL

Agreed. CHOP is an amazing facility, both in the city and in Voorhees, NJ. My son was treated at the Philadelphia CHOP last January for an infection and at the CHOP at Virtua in Voorhees in October after breaking his arm (in a hockey game).

I highly recommend both sites.

EDIT: To go along with what Bill said, what was impressive about Eric Lindros was his many visits to CHOP. Why? Because he would never bring along a cameraman and have pictures taken as photo opportunities. He genuinely visited the kids for their (and he would say his) benefit.

Don't know what to tell you if you can't grasp the simple concept. I'm not saying Wides wasn't talented/skilled, but I wouldn't exactly call him a sniper.

Bryz may have stolen a point last night. The Jets had way to many very good scoring chances.
These guys are also trying to be to fancy. I saw at least 6 prime scoring chances peed away by the extra pass.
This is not a stanley cup team this year that's for sure.
The sky isn't falling so don't get me wrong but it's getting old getting owned by the Jets.
As far as the shootout selection I don't see anything to gripe about Couturier, Giroux, Jagr who else was Lavi supposed top use?

He had a wicked shot and scored a lot of goals. Sounds like a sniper to me.

i love g and hope he can win the ross, but enough is enough, im sick of every reporter and everything news related towards the flyers has to include g winning the ross, it seems to be affecting his play because thats all they ask him and jagr about, its reminding me of how the eagles were a "dream team" and thought they were better then they were and pooped it up.

They can begin practicing the shoot-out for starters. Lavy admitted it wasn't part of his normal practice routine. That's not to say players didn't take the initiative and practice it on their own, but perhaps this is something Lavy should enforce now.

A few times G passed up wide open looks only to take the same shot moments later when he was either covered or blocked. It was weird, and very noticeable. He also made some crazy pass attempts in lieu of taking a good high % shot.

He did not have a very good game at all last night.

Here's a simple concept missing from your original point. A player has to be good enough, and have the ability to generate quality shots during a game. And he also has to have a quality shot to score goals at the rate that Carter did in his last 3 years or so with the Flyers. It's not an accident, and it's not simple mathematics. If it was just about "mathematics" then any player could just simply shoot the puck enough and score at the rate that Carter did here. Pretty simple concept.

Bill good to hear your little boy is doing well. Hockey players are the best athletes bar none.

I'm happy Bryz played well. Each goal (1 in regulation, the other in the skills competition) were not his fault. The first was a great shot and the other was him getting caught in between a poke check and a butterfly. $ hit happens.

7-4-2 overall in the dog days of winter. Not bad.

While I agree to a point. I don't see in the end how much help it will actually be unless they bring in a different goalie every week. After a while, shooting at the same two goalies in practice, sure you get used to beating them and visa-versa, but once you face a new goalie you are back in the same boat somewhat. Its all a crapshoot.

I have no problem with who was used last night. At least Cooter and G had seen some actual action over the past week. And its not like Briere or JVR were available (two others I would use) And the way Jagr was going last night I was hoping he would be used.

Bottom line is the team couldn't score two goals against Winnipeg. And they pissed away a great performance by Bryz. There should have never been a shootout.

Good game by Bryz. Now let's see him do it vs. an NHL-caliber team.

I was happy with Bryz's game as well. We simply can't beat the Winterpeg Jets, so that's nothing new, but he was more focussed than I have seen him, and although I'd still like to see a little better rebound control, he seemed a bit more under control in the net and not flailing around as much. Good sign.

He also seemed to be battling harder. I was encouraged, and LOVED that he put up a doughnut in the first period.

bryz and jagr were the best flyers out there, agreed, but enough of these points being pissed away, especially on home ice, to lesser teams - especially those without some of their top players.

to go shotless through the first 14 minutes of the game?

thought that bourdon and gusty looked like rookies - both struggled a bit.

giroux needs to stop with the cute crap and simplify his game.

to not play with any real purpose or determination until 8 minutes left in the game?
jagr and giroux being put back together was a big part of the late push.

if the SO ever becomes part of the playoffs, the flyers are (frank)ed.
