Concussion setbacks for JVR and Briere today, per Homer. They felt OK yesterday but neither felt as well today, and thus were held out of practice.

Would you rather have Carter or Couturier and Voracek? Ill take the other two who cost less and will have more points then Carter.

You have to talk to Homer (GM) who obviously didnt feel it was that important to keep the sniper.

- stveshdy

You're right. So he just went out on the open market and signed one of the all time best in the NHL (Jagr).

Why don't you tell me what you think I'm trying to say.

Who do you want the Flyers to add, in all seriousness?
- stveshdy

weber or suter if we don't over pay... i'm not liking our defense

if wisnewski wasn't injured maybe him
i wouldn't mind Streit he's great on the PP which we need to improve
would love mcbain
giordano wouldn't be a bad choice
yandle or ekman larrsson would be great but i doubt phoenix would ever trade them

One of the more amazing things about Giroux's status among the league leaders in points is that he starts almost 55% of his shifts in the DEFENSIVE zone. No other league leader starts there more than 46% of the time.

Here's a simple chart that shows how many shifts each of the league's leading scorers have taken in the offensive zone:

Could this also show how poor the Flyers are at playing in the opposing team's zone for any length of time? I don't think they generate enough cycling or offensive zone pressure for much of the games.

It shows me that Lavy sees Giroux as a very defensively responsible player, so he sends him out for defensive zone draws. This is what that stat is saying correct?

Or, that there's just no one better on the roster to take those draws.

No, because there are plenty of Flyers players who are above 50% and 60% on offensive zone starts.

The Flyers just lack that shutdown center that would normally take those draws, leaving your superstar to be able to spend more time in the offensive zone.

That is hilarious. I can only imagine the conversations during the game.

well during the mites it kinda went like Coates needs to shut up so the kids can get the spotlight and I'd rather watch her (pointing to the ice girl).

Okay, thanks.

EDIT: I guess the real telling stat would be the overall team % of offensive vs. defensive zone draws.

it was a total poopshow of a hockey night all around. Had the Rags started Lundqvist it would have been worse.

Bradley's spreadsheet inspired me. I'm also totally bored today.

Here is what the standings would look like if the points system were:

3 points for regulation or OT win; 2 points for SO win; 1 point for SO loss.

A few teams would change places but the Devils would still get in the playoffs with their 9 SO wins. Of course teams have played different amounts of games at this point so things could change from this.
