Agreed, Cornet should be on the 4th line. But then again with Belanger on the PP nothing surprises me anymore. May as well ice a line of Belanger, Hordi, Petrell, Sutton, and Peckham as the first PP unit. Then pull the goalie and throw out Horcoff as the go-to guy.
- kingbrehm

How is that at all the same??

Cornet is scoring goals in the AHL. If the Oilers wanted a guy on the 4th line, they would have called up House or Tyravienen.

You're a genius!

You took a player of obvious interest (Blum) and simply swapped the players rumored to be moved (Smid for Hemsky).

Funny how when you're throwing poop to the wall and people call you on it, you're 'just joking.' But then you come to a general conclusion and insist that you're the brain trust on par with NHL experts and it's 'easy.'

Your desperate pleas for attention are getting sadder.

I'm pretty sure Blum for Smid was real last year. Are you bored?

I absolutely love bringing this up.

Apparently Hemsky was in a deal for Columbus' 8th overall pick last year at the deadline. Dougie Hamilton went 9th overall. If this is true it goes to show you how great it is to have a GM that is so patient in making a deal.

- spawnofbettman

Do you think the BJ's would have finished that poorly had they finished the year with Hemsky? Probably not, making the pick outside of the top 10...

Cornets career in the NHL will be played out in its entirety during the month of February so don't miss a moment of it. He is terrible.
- kingbrehm

Well I'm not expecting much but then again it is always fun to watch a player get a shot like this. See how he reacts. Maybe he scores, maybe he poops the bed, I don't know.

House is barely an AHLer and Tyrvainen I wish they would give him a shot in the lineup over Hordi but he's still developing.

I never said it wasn't....

I was commenting on Cloutier's insistence that the mainstream media took 'his' rumor of Hemsky for Blum and ran with it.

Hey I hope he succeeds, but I see OKC 4 times a year in Houston and he is that blind squirrel that found a few nuts this year. He can score from time to time, but he has very little else to offer. Most of the time is completely invisible on the ice.

I was obviously exaggerating.

My point was why bring up a guy who's skillset points to point production and bury him on the 4th line? I bet if Omark was called up and wasn't put on the first 2 lines the internet would revolt.

Cornet on the 4th line makes little sense. It's about as smart as Omark or PRV there.
- Lahey

He flat out does not deserve top line minutes. Let him add a little offense out there with Lander and not "Horcoff" the first line.

But it's a guy that has no future in the NHL. See what he can bring offensively to the 4th line with Lander and maybe they put one on the scoreboard. There is no need to put a guy with significantly less talent and nothing else to offer on the first line with two guys that are responsible for a majority of the team's offense.

For real??

What are you basing this on? Have you personally seen him play?

Just because he isn't a 'sexy' name like Pitlick or Omark he has to 'earn' his way up? The guy is doing nothing but scoring goals in the 'A.' Why make him grind it out with Lander, especially considering that is outside of his abilities.

He scores goals. The Oilers have one of their top skilled guys out. It's a fit.

Just like if Hordichuk were out, we could assume a Petrell call up.

And the difference there is MPS is a 1st round pick with a poop ton of potential. Giving him 9 minutes a game is a flat out misuse of assets. Cornet is a career AHLer so who gives a poop if he gets only a few shifts a game.

I'm Jelous u get to watch the A often. I only get to see these guys on call ups and pre season. I think I might have caught one OKC game last season on sportsnet or something, that's all. Oilers website should at least try and stream a few game, generate more interest and awareness of the success those guys are having down there.

Yes I have personally seen him play 3 times this season. He actually scored twice that I can remember but he was useless in all other facets of the game.

You're basing everything on draft pedigree??

So because he wasn't a first rounder he could never play top minutes in the NHL? Go tell Detroit to pull Datsyuk off their top line because he wasn't a 1st rounder.

I'm not saying the guy is going to be a 50 goal scorer but other teams have had lots of late picks develop into quality skilled forwards. It would be nice to see the Oilers be so lucky. And there is no reason to think it's not possible.

Your argument is narrow and ignorant.

They really should show the team especially how good they are playing together.... it's nice to have the access to them, but I'd willingly trade spots with anyone here and see the big team play.

It's not possible. Cornet is a zero player. I'm not basing it on draft pedigree I'm basing it on skill level. This guy is not an overly talented hockey player. So far the OIlers management has misused the asset in MPS by not putting him in a position to succeed. Put Datsyuk on a line with Belanger and Petrell and I guarantee he will have his struggles.

To Cloutier he is....mid-summer he was going to be our 2nd line centre.

I totally disagree, somewhat respectfully, of your arguments. MPS is a 1st round player with that ugly 'potential' tag so he should be given every chance to succeed? While Cornet, who has done everything asked of him and more, but because according to you, he is a zero player from watching him 3 times, he should be nowhere near the 1st line because he has no potential?

I'll take a kid who has overachieved his draft tag over somebody who was 'given' a chance to succeed because of expectations.

Cornet has done fantastic in OKC this year. He deserves the chance. I hope he gets at least an assist tonight, just for you.

Yeah I guess hey. I'm being greedy haha I'm going to the game tonight. I was hoping for RNH on line one, but I guess Cornet will do.

I don't know if you actually even follow the AHL team or not. The coach who a lot are giving credit for having a top team even though he has no superstars has said Cornet is a kid that should get a callup. You call him up you have to put him in a familiar role.

Oh, and you say Cornet has no skill? Maybe not. But he's getting the puck in the net this year. Lots of guys have made careers out of banging in those rebounds with little 'skill.' Not something just anybody can do.
