I'd really like to have Rick Nash as Leaf obviously, but it doesn't address the true need the Leafs have (that being a number one centre). You could probably put togther a similar package and go after Eric Staal (Carolina is in a similar position as Columbus) - one less body means the inclusion of a draft pick instead. Ergo if you keep either Kadri or Schenn you'd likely have to add at least a first rounder.
I don't think there's necessarily a set Idea of who plays with whom.
You take any one of Connolly, Bozak, Kessel, Loops, Nash and either Frattin/MAC/Kuli(the 6th wheel) and you get your top 2 lines.
It will be a period of experimentation for sure. I could see the speed of either Frattin or Kesel working with Nash.
Lupul and Nash on the same line doesn't quite seem right 5on5, but PP they could be lethal on their off wings - AngryWhiteMale
I say Burkie tries his best and lands that 1st line centre. Then if the team doesn't make it. Fire Wilson and bring up Eakin. Getting Nash would be good so long that we don't sell all of our assets. And the only way they agree to take Grabo (I think he should be resigned) is if he signs and get added on to the package. I wouldn't trade a star for good young players and UFA guy that might book it after the season. No way.
Reason? We've had the worst pk under his tenure, one of the worst defensive stats and no playoffs. So please give me your reasons as to why that moron shouldn't be fired. - TML4Life85
The players like him and GM likes him. Those are pretty 2 good reasons why he won't be fired.

Too bad he couldn't add a 1st and a 2nd to that deal to land Carter, then we flip Carter to COL for Stats and a 2nd, or something like that

Question for Waffle Nation:
Why is half of the board drooling at getting 27 year old Rick Nash, $7.8 million cap hit for the next 6 years, point totals for the past three years of 79, 67 and 66
- yet -
Nobody wants to consider 27 year old Jeff Carter, $5.273 million cap hit for the next 10 years, but the last 3 years at almost nothing in actual salary, point totals for the past three years of 84, 61, 66?

Get Eric Staal! - October30
That's the guy we need or Getzlaf. Put a package for gets, to make it better add Connolly. So Connolly, Kadri, Aulie/Schenn,Mac and our 2012 1st for Getzlaf. If they want one more young player say colborne I'd still do it. Getz is young and has low salary for his quality whereas Staal is pushing 29 soon. So 4 years younger is better.

Let's not forget Carter was part of an offensive powerhouse in PHI.
Nash was hovering on Iginla territory by never having anyone in god's good name around to contribute at his skill level.
Carter's deal is just stupid long, and there are rumblings that he's a bit of a wanker.

I'm not drooling over either, but if the choice is Carter or Nash, I'd rather Nash if it's the same price, cause he's a way better player and scores way more goals.
But the cost isn't the same. Carter would be WAY easier to acquire. That said, you could likely get Paul Stastny for similar assets as Carter, and in that choice I'd rather had Stastny.
True Nash doesn't fit what Leafs need, but Carter doesn't really fit it either, he just fits a little better than Nash.

Truth be told, I'd rather just re-sign Grabbo than trade for Stastny.
We can have a pleasant little debate over who is ultimately better, and you can probably convince me that it's Stastny, but when you factor in that we don't have to give up anything to re-sign Grabbo, and we would have to move big assets to obtain Stastny, I'm going to go with Grabbo, thank you very much.
