And $5 to $5 Million.........

Offered 30% more to work for one of the best people I've ever worked with...catch? In Boston managing a group of people. Hate Boston. Hate managing people.

Saying what you would do vs what Jeff did is easy when you are you and he is he. It is harder to say if you were he, with the circumstances as presented what you would do and how you would feel. I would hope I'd be more professional. But I would certainly feel betrayed. Heck, as a fan I felt betrayed. He, and we, had all been sold a bill of goods.

when i saw him smiling in the dad/team photo the next day i thought there was a good chance he's not going to be out long. good sign anyway, although concussions often like to take left turns at albuquerque.

What I am saying is atheletes are fortunate to be in their position and not just anyone gets that chance, so if you feel that's the job you want, you have to accept the risks. Getting paid millions dollars to do anything, especially a game, comes with risks and if you can't handle those risks then you shouldn't be in that job. Saying taking a raise from 50,000 to 80,000 dollars at some other job is nothing like getting paid millions to play hockey. So no matter what our situations are, I believe, and always will believe, that if you want to take that money, you have to accept the repercussions. And if playing hockey in Columbus is something you are not willing to do, then don't be a hockey player. It's pretty simple, IMO.

I'm not going to talk about this anymore just because I've said all I have to give on the subject. It's just how I feel and I don't think anyone is wrong for disagreeing, it's just what I think.

EDIT: I believe that the Flyers probably mislead Jeff into thinking he was going to be here for good, but in professional sports you know things can change any minute.

JvR and Briere both left the ice before practice ended, prior to the "battle" drills. Guess they're not fully cleared.

Carter needs to be more professional. Whether he is in Columbus or Philadelphia he is being paid to play hockey. He may not like it in Columbus but he still needs to give 100 percent out on the ice. He can talk to management behind close doors and express his desire to be traded. I dont fault the kid for being depressed when he was shipped to Columbus. Its a business and everyday it changes you just have to go with the flow and move on. Anything can happen and trades are apart of it.

I think the Flyers signed both thinking that they had their #1 and 2 centers locked up for life.. but found out that they were not nearly the guys they had hoped they would be. When that happened, they decided it was time to move them before it was too late. Couldnt be happier with how things have worked out for the Flyers.

As for Carter. I do understand that he isnt where he wants to be.. and that he made a commitment to the team. He also must have done some things that made the team think differently about him, than they did when they offered the deal. I do think it sucks that he signed the deal hoping to be here with Richie for life.. but it wasnt a golden ticket. I dont feel bad for him when I look at his life. He could have been much worse off.

I'm not sure if Jeff Carter would feel bad for me if the roles were reversed so I am withholding my opinion.

Exactly. People get fired or laid off work every day, after they commit to working for a company for the rest of thier lives. At least Carter still gets his pay check.

Braydon Coburn fits perfectly to the description you gave for the type of player Gleason is. There are many defenseman in the NHL similar to both players making in the 4M range. Coburn and Gleason are similar players in terms of ability.
- MJL

Tim Gleason has 15 career goals in 526 games.. Coburn had 9 in his first full season with the Flyers. Coburn has shown the ability to QB a power play. Gleason.. not even close.

Coburn is a much better all around d-man then Gleason. Not even close.

My issue is everyone is coming back to the deal he signed with the Flyers. I think it goes back to when he decided to pursue a career in the NHL. There aren't a lot of players at Carter's age who get a 10 year deal to be in 1 city his whole career, so he would have ben extremely fortunate to get that. At the very least he is guaranteed a lot of money to play elsewhere.

Of course he will feel bad at first, which is fine, but if he has been sulking since the day the trade has been made, then that's ridiculous. If he's over it now, working hard, and being a good team guy, then great.

I have no ill will towards the guy, I just don't think he should be too upset about his situation, given that that the biggest reason he is unhappy is probably that he's in Columbus, OH and not on a losing team.

Obviously Homer is better then the Carolina GM, or Coburn would rather take less money to stay with a team that has a chance to win then take his chances with free agency.

So the Canes recently noticed he's a good player because all sources say they were looking to trade him at too high a cost.
- Schenn2shine

maybe they realized he brings more value to the team and want to keep him people can say anything they want in public to help inflate worth

I don't think too many would argue that point. But I think MJL's point was that Gleason's game is comparable to Coburn's. The style of play and what they bring to the ice is similar. It's a good comparison, whether or not Coburn has scored more goals.

You think Carter is jealous that Richards got to LA? In all reality, the deals should have been Switched. Carter would have been a better fit in LA, where they need scoring, and Richards would ahve been better in Columbus, where they need a set-up guy for Nash... Not only did Homer get the better of each trade, he managed to keep the better deals from the other teams... lol
