i can't wait until the deadline so all this Weber Suter speculation will go away.

Pred Nation you have to trust DP. The franchise is where they are because DP and Trotz are masterminds. He will make the deal and if he can't then those players did not want to stay and no GM could have made them stay! Remember we are a small market team on a small budget, just because we have cap room does not mean we are going to use it. When have we have used all of our cap space?

Anyone think DP is like Billy Beane from Money Ball?

Yep...not to toot my own horn, but I wrote a series of articles on exactly that subject. "Do the most with what ya got, and the least of what ya not" as was inscribed on needlework at my house growing up and the mantra for DP and the Predators.

When have we been in a position with ownership to be able to spend to the cap? Ownership is stronger now than every before i.e. Brett Wilson (Billionaire). That thought of being a small market team is what is going to hurt our team from taking that next step. Plus what has Billy Beane won? Did the A's win anything? Oh wait they were relevant for like 4 years made it to the playoffs and made a quick exit. Being like Billy Beane is the greatest thing in the whole world.

I keep hearin gthat new ownership has money. They made a great step with Rinne...but that's it. No significant off season signings and they let players walk again.

Having been a Pred season ticket holder since inception and with that perspective, I feel strongly that the history of the Poile-Trotz system is hard to argue against. If the team was not icing competetive teams, not playing exciting hockey under this leadership, then I too would be crabby. The only blow-up "rebuild" was a function of selling the team, ultimately(Thank Goodness) to a local ownership group. Speculation that current players want out of Nashville because we are a small non-traditional hockey market, may or may not be true. Nashville is Nashville. BUT we are Smashville when it comes to the support of our NHL team. I think the ownership, leadership, and most importatntly, the players deliver Smashville to the ice for us, way more often than not.

Go Preds!

Well that billionaire that I mentioned earlier didn't become part of the ownership group until after the season had already started. We let guys walk this offseason because we needed to bring up some of our young talent up and clear space to get Rinne, Weber, and Suter signed. Everyone continues to view this the same old Predators but stop being nieve this is not the same old same old organization.

Being Naive is something you do in the face of actions that support the contrary. They may have an owner with money but the season is more than half over and it's not like they went out of their way to add to the team in Oct,Nov,Dec,Jan thus far.

BACK IT UP. Show the fans don't just keep saying it. They've added NOTHING.
Until they actually act on it its purely fantasy.

Well they said they would spend to sign Rinne and they did! You are being naive to think this ownership group is not willing to spend as they spent the money necessary to re-sign Rinne. Plus, this was the first chance that the new ownership group had wth Brett Wilson to sign someone and they did. Oh and that contract is not an albatross as long as Rinne continues to win sat a tune of like 9 games is a row only giving up around 2 goals a game.

Also, who could they have added in Oct., Nov., Dec., Jan.? No teams make trades or adds players of significance that early. So where did you expect ownership to go to sign/trade for someone? The next month will be telling to see if they are serious about spending more to win. But at this point how can you not believe them as this is the first time THIS ownership has been stable enough to spend before.

Both of our teams stand at 64 pts, Van. with game in hand, but pretty darn close to exactly even. Preds and Vancouver are both good teams capable of going deep in the SCP. Wouldn't you agree?

I do agree. I think the Preds can go as far as the finals and has a chance to win.
As I said I think it was great that they signed Rinne.

However, that was retaining 1 of the 3 franchise guys, and while some say I'm being naive Suter and Weber seem to agree with me. Both guys have said they want to wait and see where the franchise is headed before they sign. It doesn't get any more clear than that.

To say teams don't make deals early just isn't true. We've already seen Vancouver deal for Booth (a player you easily could have had) Calgary deal for Cammelleri (another you could have had) Ottawa deal for Turris (same )

What has Nashville done with all that cap space and plethora of prospects? oh they signed one of the 2 guys they need to this year. Fine and good.

Not enough. Still time to do something.. but time is ticking.

All of this is pretty much putting me in a pissy mood.

Suter and Weber are acting like asses, as far as I'm concerned. Be the leaders of the "team," or get the hell out of the way.

and Poile is sitting at his desk saying...d amit, if you'd sign on for just 1 more year, I'd show you the bacon. Strength up the middle, 70point scorer in 47 who will play here or I'll trade him to Islanders over the summer for a sniper...if the right cog comes up (Whitney, Vrbata, JoeBob the second coming) we'll run in May, but now is the golden moment...

except for a star defenseman who is going to go for the gold and a CBA that may make it all irrelevant or worse yet postpone everything for 12 months...

I'm sorry but Ryan should have voiced his opinion in Nashville before he left for ASG. Maybe the local media wouldn't have twisted Suter's words. Ryan is out for Ryan, he has the Suter legacy to worry about.

I could help to notice but all of the new preds banners at A game don't have Suter and Weber on them. This summer everything had Suter's ugly mug on it.

I think Suter was a bit naive. Canadian hockey media is ALOT different than the local media. You really have to think about what you say before you say it. If he's wanting to go to a more "traditional hockey market" then he better learn that fast.

I am done with Suter and Weber. Done. They have and are holding this franchise hostage along with the fans. This junk about being a distraction before the trade deadline is pure BS.

Now he backtracks and hopes he isnt traded because he's on a 'pretty good' team. Hey Ryan you are one of the best **** teams in the league this season - you just beat the Hawks twice in a row and are riding high at the all-star break. You are getting more fan support than ever in your barn with sell-out after sell-out. You have two young stud D-men in Josi and Ellis to learn from you and our illustrious captain.

So it comes down to adding a piece (we assume a scoring forward) in order to grace us with your signature. At least you said this publicly in order to make Poile's job easier. After all, if a team like the Jackets or Ducks think about trading Carter or Ryan, they know Poile is in between a rock and another equally as selfish rock so they will squeeze every drop of blood out of that turnip in return for their guy.

I don't begrudge you or Weber the ability to choose what you want to do. You have earned it and I have no problems with that. But please stop telling us how much you love Nashville while at the same time are looking at houses in the greater Detroit area.

All of this posturing really only tells me one thing: you two have no faith in the ability of this franchise to be more than a farm club to the Vancouver and Torontos of the league.

You guys are great players. I hope you stay. But if I am honest with myself, I know you both won't.

It's the crappy jerseys you wear. I've tried to warn you multiple times. The dye is soaking into your skin and slowly poisoning you. It's also hallucinogenic, hence the piss and vinegary sensations.

This is what really bothers me too. If it is true that Weber and Suter are holding the team ransom with their contracts waiting for mgmt to pul, the trigger on a top 6 scorer, that is pretty shady and I only know of one player that had enough clout to pull that off and that was Gretzky...and Suter and Weber are far from the Great One in negotiating power.

- HardCorePredFan316

Having been in LA when everything with Gretzky went down, I have to say that there's a vast difference between what he was asking and what Suter/Weber are doing.

Gretzky knew the Kings were possibly going to start rebuilding again. He didn't want to be part of a rebuild. All he asked for was a commitment from ownership to try to keep winning instead of rebuilding, and he would re-sign with the club. Ownership was honest with him and said that they were going to head towards rebuild mode. They ended up trading him to St. Louis because he was not going to sign on for a rebuild.

Weber and Suter are playing the 'show me' game. As far as I'm concerned, the Preds have done their part. Now let's see if they take the easy route and flee to a perennial contender or if they stay and try to make the Preds a perennial contender. The former, as I've said before, is the path of least resistance. I'd have a lot more respect and reverence for those two if they chose the latter. It's so easy to cut and run.
