What about the deal that got us LeClair and Desjardins... Was that Clarke?

Was it Clarke that traded for LeClair and Desjardins? Becuase I would say that.
- RooNosHockey

Yes it was Clarke who made that trade. Clarke was Flyers GM for 19 years over two stints.

The Mets are going to finish last in the NL East. Hilarious.

What's funny to me is how bad people want to trade JvR but still complain about Patrick Sharp being traded. Who's to be blamed when JvR gets moved and he rips it up? Personally I feel Matt Read could be the next Patrick Sharp.
- Schenn2shine

Only reason people wanted JvR traded is bc he has been a disappointment (injures or not). The Flyers really could use a top notch defenseman and JvR is probably one of your better chips needed to pull that kind of deal off. The Flyers have done a very nice job this year scoring even without JvR and that makes you think he can be expendable for the right return. I dont think people just want to trade JvR unless their getting back a great return.

Just dont think their ready yet. They have to prove they can produce all year long before I move them up my rankings. Think their still too young to make that next step. This could be the year they finish 3rd in the division.

Yes. That was his best trade, especially since he was able to re-acquire Recchi for Dainius Zubrus a few years later. Clarke made a number of good trades that year: Söderström for Hextall, Galley for Svoboda, Yves Racine for Kevin Haller, Bob Wilkie for Karl Dykhuis.

The counter argument is that Suter makes players look much better when playing with him. Suter is not an offensive d-man. He is a two way d-man who has a better defensive game than offensive.. and his offensive game is pretty superb.

In my opinion a deal has to be done. Nothing is written in stone but I feel there is something most likely to be done then not.
- Schenn2shine

i like evryone on the team and i just dont see us being able to capitalize on a trade

UGh...
both players wanted a fresh start...
Ellison was going to be a depth guy
Sharp was going to play on a bad team but get the ice time he wanted.

As much as Clarke made some bad trades, he made some good ones. Not all trades work out.

- phi1671

I knew nothing about Ellison so I asked the guy what we could expect. He swore we'd love him

There is no doubting that he made a number of very good deals. When you are a GM for 19 years, you are going to make good deals and bad deals.. It just seems his bad deals were tough ones to swallow.

What, in your opinion, was Clarkes best trade... Not trying to start a fight either.. I just only remember trades that didnt exactly go our way...

Brindy.. won a cup.
Williams.. won a cup.
Sharp... won a cup.

Thats how I see it. I think Clarke was MUCH better in FA.

- jak521

Gotta be the LeClair/Desjardins for Recchi deal

It's okay to be disappointed with JvR but I think it's silly to have the mindset to trade him. For me, it's okay to think this way when it comes to a vet but not a kid.
