Not at all. You said if you want to blame anyone.. blame Sharp. I am just letting you know that he didnt trade himself for Matt Ellison... unless the org. gave him that authority..

In my opinion a deal has to be done. Nothing is written in stone but I feel there is something most likely to be done then not.
- Schenn2shine

absolutely. 2 rookies as a third pairing is not gonna cut it and the fact that they pushed out lilja is telling enuf...they want him as a back up only. we need a dman.

So because a guy doesnt want to be here... you trade for a guy you are gonna stash in the AHL?

Im sure there are plenty of guys in the NHL right now that dont wanna play for the team they are on, maybe have suggested getting traded.. yet havent been moved.

At the end of the day, it is one of the worst trades in franchise history.

- jak521

It is one of the worst trades in the Flyers franchise but at the same time Patrick Sharp could have waited his turn to establish himself on this team. He didn't wait. He asked for a trade.

It's easy to point fingers after the fact but at the same time Matt Ellison had the better NHL numbers then Patrick Sharp.

You're right, he didn't trade himself for Matt Ellison but at the time, Ellison had the better NHL numbers then Patrick Sharp or any other player you've mentioned. It's easy to make such comments after the fact. My response isn't going to change.

Pronger being out gave Gusty and MAB a chance to show they can play in the NHL. Imagine if Pronger didn't sustain as severe of an injury and he could come back by the playoffs, how deep we'd be at defense? We would have Gusty, MAB, and Lilja all fighting for the 6th spot. Wow.

Hopefully Homer can pull of some kind of trade for a dman without shooting too many holes in the lineup.

been thru this before. I remember Tim immediately assailing the trade and saying that Ellison was a career minor leaguer.

In the NHL Sharp had 15 career points and Ellison had 13 career points at the time of the trade.

Ellison was also a -7 while Sharp was a +1.

He was playing on the 4th line with Turner Stevenson and Branko Radivoijoicvjxchas. Had they waited until the following year...

Tuomo Ruutu had much better numbers.. Bork posted 34 points that season.

prob is, the level of MAB and gusty is likely 3rd pairing tops. we needed to be looking for a top 4 guy before the season started given the landscape of pronger off of injuries galore, kimmo w/ only one yr left and coby/carle unsigned. add to that a surfeit of young forward prospects...

after the trade I emailed a Chicago beat writer and he insisted Ellison was going to be a good player for the Flyers.

He was traded in 05-06.. the following year was the year they decided to go with youth.. Richards Cater Umberger Upshall etc. He probably would have been part of that group playing in the top 6.

I stand corrected then. However, how will trading Sharp for Rutuu at the time make sense for the Hawks if Ruutu had 15 points for his career and Bouque had 34 for that season?

UGh...
both players wanted a fresh start...
Ellison was going to be a depth guy
Sharp was going to play on a bad team but get the ice time he wanted.

As much as Clarke made some bad trades, he made some good ones. Not all trades work out.
