MAYBE...just MAYBE if we get Getzlaf, Parise would consider signing here...but not only is that dependant on Getzlaf being traded, it also depends on Parise hitting the market...so if you havnt already guess, Im saying it aint gonna happen. - noename09
Do you think we could trade for both Getz and Parise with the following?:
For Getzlaf
2013 1st
Schenn
Grabovski
Lombardi
For Parise
MacArthur
Scrivens
Holzer
2014 1st
Maybe not....what would you have to add from out prospect pool or picks to get these deals done? I assume NJ would like more prospects at G and maybe D. ANA will need a servicable center, Schenn, and some depth up front, and a pick (I don't think the Getzlaf propsal is that far off...)
What would it take to get an RFA Parise? There are not a lot of contenders that will add him as a rental (are there?, contenders that can even fit him in?). What more would it take?
I really think looking at that line up that we could be a top contender in the east.
I think Kessel is a 2nd line RW on a Stanley Cup team...and that is how we are paying him...

Well that's kind of anti climactic. Nothing about the Russian Mafia? Maybe even hunting wooly mammoths? - weirdoh
There was more detail to said story but it was a funny read. JFJ talked about how drunk he ended up getting and how he woke up the next morning thinking that he might have promised some dumb things to the kid and yadda yadda. |

Meh. Scouting is only one part of it.
Development is the second part.
There's a lot of politics in the draft. Guys fall based on their passports, or because they said something that made managers "worried".
A guy like Datsyuk was HIGHLY touted from the beginning but there were worries about his body, passport and whether his game would even translate. He was high risk/high reward.
That being said, the Wings have a great European scout in Hakan Andersson, where they do fairly well. Toronto has Tommie Bergmann who does well overseas as well. Heck, it's a competition between those two sometimes. The Leafs traded up to grab Olden knowing full well Andersson wanted him.
The draft process just isn't very black/white sometimes. - Brian Huddle
what development did they do with Datsyuk? Or any of their stars for that matter?
Not one of the big-3 spent any time in the AHL, just went straight from Europe |

Playing in general is development. Whether with European leagues, CHL teams, NCAA, AHL, or even NHL time. It's about putting guys in positions to succeed, mentoring them on a mental level, and then putting them into programs (fitness, diet, skating, whatever) to get them to where they need to be.

this ones not even worth discussing....the odds of those two things going down are horrid... - noename09
I think that if Zack did play out the season (rights traded on draft day), the odds of getting him go up if we have Getz... |

When a lot of your game is based on the D side... yes. Getting the matchup and shutting down lines can be key. |

That's why Montreal traded for Gomez. They saw him as a tool to bring in other UFAs, which they did plenty of that off season. |

right...but Parise wont hit the market, no way no how. Either gets traded last minute with the intent to sign, or gets resigned. |

One of the best attempts to justify that trade when it went down. |

I think the odds of getting even one of them are bad enough..getting both is just crazy!
theres no freakn way for one that Parise even hits the market...and its going to take a lot for Murray to move Getzlaf, especially how well Anaheim has been doing of late. - noename09
Can NJ afford to miss the playoffs this year? I'm not sure they can trade Zack at the deadline, he has a big cap hit for any contenders looking to add him, and is a UFA. I'm not sure the return will be that huge, and they would still get something for him on the draft floor... |
