You don't need any of those guys on a line with Getzlaf....
- B-Leaf

I wasn't in dreamland mode, I mean in general, Parise in my opinion, is not the proper allocation of money.
In dream land mode, I still want a mean sob on the second line!

(frank), I still get goosebumps when I watch those highlights. That Crosby goal was to us that Henderson's was to our dads.

Top bestest goals ever, or most memorable to me

1. Crosby's
2. Lemieux's from Gretz in 87
3. Eberle's a few years ago against the Russians
4. Kariya's when Lemieux let it go between his legs
5. Dougie's vs St Louis
6. The one that I shouldn't have to name

buy out all the spots in Robert's training camp, and have him work one-on-one with Kadri, 7 days a week, all off-season. Problem solved.

why the silence on the Detroit discussions?
- mycokes

Meh. Scouting is only one part of it.

Development is the second part.

There's a lot of politics in the draft. Guys fall based on their passports, or because they said something that made managers "worried".

A guy like Datsyuk was HIGHLY touted from the beginning but there were worries about his body, passport and whether his game would even translate. He was high risk/high reward.

That being said, the Wings have a great European scout in Hakan Andersson, where they do fairly well. Toronto has Tommie Bergmann who does well overseas as well. Heck, it's a competition between those two sometimes. The Leafs traded up to grab Olden knowing full well Andersson wanted him.

The draft process just isn't very black/white sometimes.

Well, one going down would increase the odds of the other going down.

provided we can clear the space.

Then why didn't they select Ossi Vaananen? Denis Arkapov? Jarkku Ruutu? Afanasankov? Ponikarovsky? Vasicek? Spacek? Mikael Samuelsson? Andrei Markov?
Ales Kotalik

All guys they could have had.

Yeah, they must have had a scout tell them to take Zetterberg, and good on the scout. But the scout would tell you he had no idea the guy would develop so well.

If the scout thought so, he would have insisted they take him in the 3rd round or higher.

- Atomic Wedgie

There's also another aspect to this.....Zetterberg was signable by Detroit, because of Lidstrom being there already, that and he played with a bunch of wings at the 2002 Olympic games. It's fine and dandy to draft a euro, but getting them over here can be hell.

He had to go over to Russia and meet with Kulemin's dad. Apparently he was forced into lots of Russian vodka before Kulemin's dad would even trust him enough to allow Kulemin to sign a contract.

Burke was talking at Ryerson last night and mentioned that was one of the greatest things JFJ ever did-- bring the Marlies to TO.

He said they actually lose money on the Marlies because of the Ricoh lease, but that it's a big part of recruiting guys like Bozak, Gustavsson, Mueller, etc. That renting/buying a place in TO means they don't have to move around if they're up/down.

- Brian Huddle

Ha ha ha ha ha - what a good laugh that is. I'm sure the MLSEL accountants prepared a spreadsheet to make that technically true.

The City of Toronto fixed up the old barn for the Roadrunners (great idea, City of Toronto). When that collapsed, MLSEL stepped in to a real sweetheart deal.

Sure, on paper, they may lose money with the Marlies, but don't forget they get paid a huge chunk of change to "manage" the Ricoh.

I think the odds of getting even one of them are bad enough..getting both is just crazy!

theres no freakn way for one that Parise even hits the market...and its going to take a lot for Murray to move Getzlaf, especially how well Anaheim has been doing of late.

I gotta put #2 at the top, even if both my brothers were at the game, and I watched it from a bar in Scarborough.

Yeah, it's a story my brothers like to tell...
