Parise was amazing in the Olympics
- HipHopisDead

(frank), I still get goosebumps when I watch those highlights. That Crosby goal was to us that Henderson's was to our dads.

Top bestest goals ever, or most memorable to me

1. Crosby's
2. Lemieux's from Gretz in 87
3. Eberle's a few years ago against the Russians
4. Kariya's when Lemieux let it go between his legs
5. Dougie's vs St Louis
6. The one that I shouldn't have to name

Parise brings a lot of sandpaper with him. He will go through a wall to get a goal. He happens to be fast as well.

Burke was talking at Ryerson last night and mentioned that was one of the greatest things JFJ ever did-- bring the Marlies to TO.

He said they actually lose money on the Marlies because of the Ricoh lease, but that it's a big part of recruiting guys like Bozak, Gustavsson, Mueller, etc. That renting/buying a place in TO means they don't have to move around if they're up/down.

- Brian Huddle

Another great thing he did was draft guys like Gunner and Kuli...

OK, it appears we have reached the silly hour, but I will say this:

Check the record: I've always said the Leafs are going to have to get good before we get great.

Win one playoff round - have the team go ape-poop again. Have the fans go nuts over OUR Toronto Maple Leafs. Good vibes, etc.

Only then will it look like a great place for UFAs to flock to.

Burke - Hey Zach...wanna play with Kessel and Getzlaf and make 6.5M while youre at it!?

Parise - Sure

some of it probably had to do with good scouting, but there was some luck there too...lets be honest.
- noename09

i have conceded that already. No doubt there is some luck to it but I think a ton of credit goes out to Detroit for expanding the draft criteria. They were innovators that struck gold but definitely did not maintain their edge once everyone else copied.

Moneyball anyone?

Exact ages: Leeman was 26 and Iafrate was 24 at the time. Iafrate wasn't the nicest chap with his wifey either......

At that age, marriage was the furthest thing from my mind.

Many hockey players are douches on the road too, I know of one prominent Vancouver Canuck who is supposedly happily married but banged a bartender I used to work with. All you need is one teamate to break the code and poop blows up.......that ties into a certain former Montreal Canadien too, an angry wife found out about said player's antics and got her revenge with another Hab.

Well, in that scenario he proposed, we get Getzlaf.

Parise is a step above Kessel, in that a) he's managed to put up ppg numbers in a defensive system without much help, and b) he's also their top PKing forward.

I know the PK is awesome right now. But I think we can agree that a bit more help on the PK is always welcome. Especially when the same guy will also play a major role on the PP.

If we could get that line-up... we'd be instant cup contenders.

It was actually trading for Getz and getting Zack in FA

I think Frattin is a guy who's game better suits the NHL as it is. I have no issues with him and think he should be up with the big club.

But you would have no idea.

Basically after the first couple of rounds - especially with Euros - it becomes a guessing contest. You have no idea what the other 29 teams are thinking.

You want to hide him until the 2nd or 3rd round? Sure.

7th? Nope.

And if your scouting was so pinpoint accurate, how do you account for the dog poop you selected before him?

- Atomic Wedgie

lidstrom was found by accident, end of story. Noone expected his game would translate so well onto North American Ice, he wasn't even on the top pairing for his swedish U18 team. He made the World Junior team and had a big tourney, then his play just took off from there. The Canada Cup performance showcased his skills on the NHL size rink, and the rest is history.

What dio you see as his goal upside?
I think he could get 20 with PP time and some more confidence.

as the first sentence of my post reads, their scouting in North America was poop. Overall, I agree with Glucky. they were the first to make it to Europe but once the rest of the NHL caught up, they have been piss poor at drafting.
- mycokes

Then why didn't they select Ossi Vaananen? Denis Arkapov? Jarkku Ruutu? Afanasankov? Ponikarovsky? Vasicek? Spacek? Mikael Samuelsson? Andrei Markov?
Ales Kotalik

All guys they could have had.

Yeah, they must have had a scout tell them to take Zetterberg, and good on the scout. But the scout would tell you he had no idea the guy would develop so well.

If the scout thought so, he would have insisted they take him in the 3rd round or higher.

Only thing that shoulda been done differently: use MLG instead of Ricoh. Have the prospects playing under the old dome. I can guarantee you, just due to nostalgia, the marlies would be a profitable venture in TO. Right now you gotta trek it out to Ricoh to watch them play in a poopty rink.

I know I'll get ragged on for this, but I think he'll be a 30 goal scorer in the league one day. He just has to learn to bear down and finish when he's in front of the net.

a team with (beast-mode) Lupul, Getzlaf, Kessel, and Parise in the top-6... with Phaneuf, Liles, Gunnar, and Franson in the top-4?

you're look at only one potential weakness...

and who knows, if we keep signing these goalies, one of them is bound to pan out
