I can see you taking a run at him as well. Unless CBJ wants to get him I think he will end up in Oil Country

Raymond? Gritty? Those two words don't go in the same sentence. I would do Raymond for Hemsky straight up if he were on a team outside our division. Don't think Oilers and Canucks will be swapping players of that calibre.

Even if he was gritty, why would the nucks, who constantly get slammed for being too prissy and possibly lost a cup last year cause of it trade for Hemsky?

No way Thomas gets dealt either. The guy has paid his dues in Boston and won them the cup last year. He did nothing wrong and will probably win the Conn Smyth again this year.

The article on tsn also states Thomas has a no-movement clause that runs out at the end of the season. Doubtful that he agrees to be moved at the deadline.

Niittymaki is a solid NHL backup but it does nothing to sign him and send Bulin to the AHL. Danis and LeNeveu are both playing excellent. The only way Niittymaki is an Oiler is if Rehab is traded in the next 12 hours.

Yep, it's possible he's moved in the summer, but no way he goes anywhere before that. Even then I think its a stretch. Really don't think its as big of a deal as the media's making it out to be.

Any thoughts on what Smyth might bring in? I could see PC making a pitch for him even though pure rentals aren't really his MO.

Good talking points. Here's my take:

-If the BJs want Khabby, they'll take Nitty at a shorter term, less contract, and not playing appreciably worse than Nikolai right now. However, I would gladly take Vermette, Umberger or Methot. Vermette is a lot better than he's showing this year, and he allows you to move Belanger for sure, and possibly horcoff later.

-Hemsky was great, wouldn't mind to see him stay or go. I don't think it would be raymond, but lack could be onto something.

-Burns would KILL hemsky if he went to SJ haha. depending on his health for the rest of the season, we might be able to get something great from SJ for Ryan Whitney.

-If the bruins move Thomas because of that, they're morons, and making a mountain out of an ant hill (which I realize lacks the consonance of the original expression, but gets the point accross: this is LESS than a molehill.

-Jeez now that you mention it, SJ might like Smyth as well. We could get their 1st for him I'll bet.

-I don't want to move any of our centres. Gagner looked really confident last night, and was a half an inch away from an OT winner.

I think a team looking to go deep in the playoffs would be expected to pay a 1st for him. A 20-30 pick seems fair for someone who is a UFA, but isn't playing half bad and has a rep for being a great leader.

Pretty obvious Smyth is a rental that will just end up back in Edmonton July 1st, so he probably fetches a crap prospect or a 4th or later pick.

I'm inclined to disagree. Jason Arnott went for Steckel and a 2nd last year. He was doing far worse and was a UFA. Even if a team knows Smyth is coming back to edmonton I think they still give up something comparable to that.

Last night's game could have been an audition for Hemsky in Vancouver. Perhaps they'd be willing to move gritty forward Mason Raymond to add Hemsky for their cup run? The Oilers also could have interest in goaltending prospect Eddie Lack, who is considered by many as deserving of a back-up job in the NHL. Lack has little opportunity to play in the NHL with the tandem already in place in Vancouver.

Lite and coming with a rich injury is exactly the opposite of what Gillis would be looking for in a 2nd liner. That transaction has literally no chance of going through. As for Lack, the most likely scenario appears to be Van keeping both Luongo and Schneider for the season, trading Schneider in the offseason, and starting next season with a Luongo/Lack tandem.

I'm starting to wonder if Hemsky and the Oilers will surprise us all, and the winger will be re-signed by the team

i think, given what the oilers think he's worth compared to what the rest of the league likely thinks he's worth, that possibility is getting higher and higher every day.

not knocking his talent, when he actually performs, but i don't think most people feel that he's worth what the oilers will want for him.
