Receivers: 2 brands to go with 1) Denon--top of the line but you are paying for the name 2) Onkyo--performance is awesome and are substantially cheaper than Denon without skimping on quality and features---I wouldnt buy anything but those 2 and as I stated I have the Onkyo(correction I have the 700series, not 600).
Speakers: 2 brands to go with 1)Bose--see Denon description above 2) Klipsch--see Onkyo description above. BUY YOUR SUB SEPARATELY!

Bose is an option speakers. I'm torn there too. Big towers like the B&W 603s or Axiom M60s ( http://www.axiomaudio.com/m60.html)? Small satellites like the old Bose Redlines (still partial to those above other Bose products) might be on the shelves though if compromise is required. And yes..I will buy the sub separately. Paradigm or Velodyne, most likely.

The next receiver will be an Onkyo or Denon, possibly Pioneer Elite

Yamaha isnt horrible, I just dont think you are getting the best bang for your buck. Just like my Panasonic Plasma, I couldnt be more pleased with my setup(receiver and speakers). To each their own, just sharing my preferences and conclusions based on months of research and years of usage. I typically dont trust references from people because most individuals dont know what they are talking about--much like employees in the stores. I actually had a best buy employee trying to convince me that instead of using HDMI for video and audio that I would be better off using fiber optic for audio...I get a very sick/twisted sense of satisfaction from taking the geek squad to task for being clueless.

Agreed...not horrible, but the kind of thing that would get you through grad school and that I didn't mind moving several times across state lines. Yamaha's were always priced affordably and performed pretty well. The competition has caught up to them though and prices have dropped so there are some better (i.e. more tech/audiophile) options now.

I was partial to the big towers as well. I tried the Klipsch on a whim and because of space requirements. They out perform any of the tower speakers ive owned and as you can see I typical spend some coin on my equipment.

Good to know. Sounds like our rooms our similar. Space isn't a terrible issue but is not unlimited so the size of the speaker could become an issue. The Axioms have a narrow profile and maybe a wider soundstage than a HTIB package. I would run some small 2 ways (Paradigm Atoms maybe) for surround with those. We just moved in so we can figure that out as we go. At least we agree that we need another tv.

Do you notice a drop off when listening to music with the smaller Klipsch?

Here is what I'm thinking on the tv front.

To answer the Klipsch question:no drop off. The quality is really outstanding. It stays amazingly crisp even at high volumes. If I were you id at least try the quintet series i posted a link to if you have the $ to spend. You will be blown away.
TV: That is basically the same TV I have except for mine isnt a "smart" tv as it was purchased 2 yrs ago prior to smart tvs being available/affordable.

If you are going to buy a new receiver and speakers in short order, my advice is wait and do it all at once. It gives you a lot more leverage to negotiate. I bought all my components at the same time and got BB to throw in a new entertainment stand I wanted($300), stands for the front satellite speakers($50ish per x2) and got my Klipsch sub(originally $350) for $200. I spent close to $3000 and got 36months no interest. Remember, when negotiating with the salesman if he doesnt have to go ask his manager for approval(or just hand you off to the manager) you didnt ask for enough free stuff or extra discounts.

Purely a financial move. They can activate him tomorrow if they wanted to. It is independent from his recovery.

Also pens scout in Montreal, I can only imagine for Gill.

or Gomez
Staal being able to be activated tomorrow is because of LTIR being retroactive to when the player left the lineup correct? I assume Staal being out for as long as he has already fills that time requirement?

Tell you what. My brother had Denon and for the amount he paid vs what I paid (5 years ago) I would never go out and spend that much for Denon. Maybe they have really improved but I didn't think it was worth the coin.

On another tech topic, Best Buy has 360 that has a 320gb, MW3, and 2 controllers for $350. That just may sway me towards Microsoft and away from Sony.

Like Detroit, I didn't get the memo that hockey was being played tonight. Guess its a good thing because I didn't play Howard and now that looks like a great play!

edit: However, in our league I didn't play Price. F!
