How you can actually think something like this amazes me. Couture is one of the most grounded, hardest working players on the Sharks. When Thornton or Marleau decide to take a night off Couture is always playing the same way: Attention to detail, incredible hockey knowledge for a 22 year old, brilliant in all 3 zones. Now, i'm not a Marleau fan at all, but I would never have suggested he should be picked last. I would have rooted for him to be as high a pick as possible cuz he's on my team, the Sharks. Sorry, but that is a dumb thing to say in my opinion. - Hockeygirl101

Ok, then there's another chap posting there who makes EXACTLY the same arguments using EXACTLY the same expressions as you. Every time. Very weird, I would say. - Aliaksandrhn
It's weird how he doesn't admit it and it's also weird that he has multiple accounts on there so he can make it look like the posts agree. He's right, he's one chap who has no shame. (I still laugh at how he said chap :lol |

Why precisely is it helpful to 'knock him down a few pegs'? How exactly is he not 'grounded'?
Or since he was picked last maybe he is just as unworthy of being called an All-Star as last year's last-to-be-picked player. Yes, you know, that loser Phil Kessel. - hit 'em

Let me try to explain. I can see how that post came off kinda troll-ish (or should I say Sharksfan48-ish - high five buddy! ).
You guys may not be Marleau fans, but I am a huge Couture fan. He is an amazing player, especially for a 22 year old. I've known he was something special before the Sharks even drafted him. This will not be his last trip to the All Star game for sure. He was also by far the league's best rookie last year.
But I am realistic, and realistically he is not the best player on the team and in comparison to the other players at the All Star Game it's not really that surprizing he was picked last. That's not taking anything away from him because there is obviously many talented guys selected for the All Star Game and the Sharks have a team stacked full of incredibly skilled players.
Sharks fans are just kind of in a honeymoon period with Couture right now. The same thing has happened with Pavelski the last couple of years. It's pretty easy to overrate a player you really like. The Sharks fanbase isn't as bad as most Canadian fanbases at least.
Hard to know for sure whether or not he is grounded. We don't know him personally. It seems like he has been so far and I'd like to see that continue. I just don't think you want a player (especially one as young as Couture) getting too high or too low. You want him to have confidence, but not over-confidence because then he might stop working as hard as he has been.
Couture is very good now, but I still think he has a lot of room to grow and where is he at now is nothing compared to where he'll be in 4-5 years if he stays on track. I just don't want him to get off track and am hoping he continues to develop for his sake and the sake of the team. I want him to succeed, not to fail.
Being picked last will do nothing but motivate him to improve. That's exactly what it did for Kessel. Do you think Leafs would change Kessel being picked last if they could? Probably not, judging from his play since then.

I don't know if he has multiple accounts on WTC but he sure as hell has at least one. The most recent example came yesterday after the Kennedy trade. FDW and Sharkfan48 were the only two people who mentioned the Southeast division in their argument. Also a couple of days ago after that Wilson meeting with season ticket holders FDW shows up on the Pollak blog, says that he attended the meeting and goes on to make a bunch of his usual negative statements about Wilson. An hour or two later Sharksfan48 visits Hockeybuzz, claims that a friend of his who attended the meeting sent him an email with the recap, and then proceeds to make EXACTLY THE SAME NEGATIVE POINTS as FDW made shortly before on Pollak's blog. That was pretty entertaining and like I said, these are only most recent examples. Really easy to draw some conclusions.
This is either the case of two bodies one mind or one mind one body. |
|
|
|
And some people on WTC confuse him with Ryan Garner which is obviously not the case. Still like you said, _12, chap is a hilarious word and Sharkfan48 is a hilarious chap. |

You know, every year since the lockout the Sharks have had a lot of pressure on them to perform in the playoffs. They've never dealt with the pressure very well, maybe marginally in the past two years. But this season it just doesn't seem like there's as much pressure on them. This could really play to their advantage. |

Based on your statement, I can only assume you are not young. Which is unfortunate, as that takes away the biggest excuse you have for being such a moron. |

Still waiting on Sharkfan48 to flex his GM genius and give us the plausible trade for Parise or other impact player he thinks DW should be able to get, but is to incompetent to do so. |

I'm not surprised he was picked last either, but I don't think it was necessary to "knock him down a few pegs". That was the statement that threw me, but I do agree with you more now that you've explained
When it comes down to it, after the known superstars (Malkin, Stamkos, Weber, etc.) the draft came down to connections. Being a sophomore player from the west coast in a draft run completely by Northeast and Atlantic division players definitely didn't help Couture's cause. I just really hope a Shark is an All Star Captain next year and picks him first |

Thought I mentioned it but lets me try it again. We don't have much to trade, because of lack of draft picks (Thanks to bad trades), and lack of young top line forward. prospects with that being said I can see Demers and Ferrireo being traded to Florida for Dominic Moore. I could also see the Sharks Trading Nick Petrecki.
No way we get any type flight players because we don't have enough to trade, unless Dougie could work a miracle and convince one of the two slackers to waive there NMC.
A trade proposal I might do.
Demers, and Torrey Mitchell to Carolina for Ruutu.. A trade I would love to do
Demers, Petrecki, Ferriero and Mitchell to Clbs for Jeff Carter and a draft pick.
I know this will be blasted but I would be willing to trade Vlasic and Ferrieo to NJ for Parise.

Right, the Canucks, Blackhawks, Red Wings, Blues, Kings, Bruins, Rangers and Penguins teams all just need to treat them lightly and the Cup is theirs.

I am legitimately curious, why would you trade for Jeff Carter? You talk about us wasting money while Havlat and Sheppard are injured, but Carter has been injured for most of the season as well. |

He is a right handed shot, and he does not have the Injury history that either Havlat or Sheppard do. And Sheppard just plain sucks.
But overall you are right about that Carter has been injured still played more games then Havlat I beleive.
