Having done a lot of work for Pharmaceutical companies I can tell you (and I'm not trying to be an apologist) that they get a bit of a bad rap when it comes to the cost of medication.

For instance, it costs less than 2 pennies for each pill of Aggrenox (http://www.aggrenox.com/) yet the medication costs hundreds of dollars to the consumer. The primary reason being the millions of dollars of research and development costs the drug companies sink into creating the drug in the first place. In addition to the millions of dollars of R&D that is done on the other 200 pills that never hit the market.

Once the FDA approves a drug, and mass production starts, almost all medicine is inexpensive to produce. But by then the drug company is so far in the hole there is no choice but to overcharge to recoup the costs. It's an unfortunate cycle.

1st off that cost is a tax write off.

2nd the government gives these companies billions in grant money every year to develop these pills.

Money talks nowadays.

My 31yr old handicapped sister takes almost 40 pills a day for various issues. Her one seizure pill cost over $1000 a month alone. By my esimates her medicine costs over $3500 per month in total. Pharmaceutical companies will find a way to fvck this up.

And if just a few pharaceutical companies were to pony up just a few percent's of their profits they could save 3rd world countries. Cancer WOULD be cured.

etc. etc...

There is a negative to the vaccine though. World population could grow to unsustainable levels as people live longer. Obviously I am not advocating to not have the potential vaccine, but that would be part of the fallout from such a thing.

Great point Gunner. All the medical advancements over the last century have led to rampant overpopulation. Infant mortality in developed nations is at an all time low around 7 deaths per 1k babies born versus nearly 30 a century ago. The average lifespan in the US in 1900 was roughly 45 years old while right now it is closing in on 80 years old.

I'll never make that. I'll bust that curve.. Not happy about it but I'm not ready to quit drinking yet and I'm willing to bet that my liver is almost on a pair of crutches right now.

I played golf at Torrey Pines in San Diego a few weeks ago, and I would say that when you place Bio-Engineering and Pharmaceutical labs on the ocean front as there were plenty of right on that golf course, there is ZERO cost control in place. The cost of doing business can be significantly lowered, so I would suggest that while costs for R&D for Pharmaceutical companies is high, there is definately low hanging fruit when it comes to cost control that could help the situation. The other issue is that when you can get medicine in other countries for lower than it costs right here where these drugs are made, that is an issue as well.

Pretty solid numbers there for both of them. Jason has 36 fewer goals over that span, and lighting the lamp is what gets you the headlines (and $$) which is why he's been under appreciated up until this season. But he's a bit more consistent game to game than Vanek is, and I think we'd be in great shape to have a dynamic top line if we could ever find those 2 guys a center to play with whose name didn't rhyme with Boy or Wrecked.
- SabreHess

Yep. A lot of what Pominville brings goes beyond goals and assists. His defensive game is better than Vanek's and is more consistent. He take less penalties and doesn't seem to lose puck possesion as much.

Both good wingers. Both important to the team, especially this year. Both have had streaks of inconsistency. Who hasn't?

Way pass that mark man. With the way we live now. It is remarkable how medicine, technology, and fuel has put some artificial ceiling to our growth. Im a fish and wildlife management major....all of my course professors have made it their life's work to study population dynamics. Most of them like to tell us how a mass die off is inevitable. Who knows when though? Thats up to us haha

It is a real problem moving forward. Instead of going to any potential war with China with bombs, we oughta be dropping condoms on them.

Well, I tend to have very strong opinions on that kind of stuff and I don't want to upset anybody. I don't tend to have a PC approach about it. In short, I agree with you 100%.

They will have a lot of answers in 12 months.

That and Gov. Cuomo is sending a boat load of money to Buffalo, but I don't have faith in our crooked politicians and fear they will screw that up.

In addition, a new program brought in by an organization, all Buffalo students will get free lunches and a free college education regardless of income.

Who wouldn't want to raise a family here?

Yep, and we all pay the price for it...you should have to be in a certain tax bracket to have "x" amount of kids. Sounds terrible I know, but something has to be done.

20. A couple of teams think Buffalo's Paul Gaustad would be a very nice fit in San Jose. That kind of big, depth centre is exactly the kind of player the Sharks eye

I havae tried to buy anti-bacterial hand soap and you cant even find it without going to a health food store and paying through the nose for it. Plus the anti-bacterial element also screws with hormones in our bodies - now it is in the water supply from everyone using it... Great stuff...

They overpaid for Ehrhoff and we didnt need him.Regie had a huge difference in the game last night as well Leopold.Leo is our most dangerous offensive threat from the blueline and why IMO we didnt need Ehrhoff here.
- buffalo 1

Ehrhoff played over 24 minutes last night in his first game back. That's huge.

While I'd like to see his PPG production up a little higher, he has been good this year. When a team's forwards can't score, the defensemen will have lower numbers.

The right wants to get rid of female services, the feds dont want to pay for birth control, abstinence is an actual form of education in schools

Well that is why some demographics in this country are in the toilet. Children out of wedlock, children having children. Not really the social building blocks to create a high functioning society. But hey, it felt great when I busted my nut. And you know what, when the government actually gives you more money for making terrible mistakes, you compound the problem more.
