the scary part is how good they are now, and how many good prospects the blues have that are a year or two away. that team is stacked!

look at the islanders for reasons why that doesn't necessary hold water...

the blues had a good two seasons where their young guns kept getting hurt for a long stretch, finally, they're all healthy. i also credit the erik johnson trade as being a turning point for them. he's been okay for colorado, and it almost makes sense for the avs to do that trade, but johnson doesn't look like he'll ever live up to expectations.

The difference is the GM in St. Louis isn't Garth Snow.

Or Mike Milbury.

He ruined that franchise.

Dipietro 15yr deal

Spezza and Chara for Yashin.

He traded Palffy, Bertuzzi, Luongo, and Olli too.

I'm 99% sure that the DiPietro signing was Snow. But I could be wrong.

The rest were definitely Milbury though.

Milbury originally offered Dipietro the 15yr deal in 2005 but the league discouraged it. The deal was offically signed in 2006 while Milbury was Senior Vice President of Charles Wang's sports holdings, Garth Snow was the GM but had little if anything to do with that contract.

However, Milbury has also been criticized for the many decisions he made in which payroll or orders for upper management were not factors. Many young players and prospects that Milbury traded away went on to have distinguished careers, often eclipsing those of the players he received in return. He has traded away defensemen Zdeno Chara, Wade Redden, Bryan Berard, Eric Brewer, Darius Kasparaitis, and Bryan McCabe; goaltenders Roberto Luongo and Tommy Salo, as well as forwards Olli Jokinen, Todd Bertuzzi, Tim Connolly, and Raffi Torres. Milbury has also come under fire for his draft day decisions such as choosing Rick DiPietro first overall in 2000 over Dany Heatley and Marian Gaborik; as well as his decision to include the 2001 second overall draft pick (Jason Spezza) as part of the Alexei Yashin trade.

Milbury is the worst GM in history.

it's probably a bad idea to ask your backup goaltender to retire so you could hire him as your GM.

I'm not a rocket scientist or anything, but I would think that wouldn't be the best idea.

Snow is a better GM than Milbury by a country mile.

That is a sad statement

Snow has them headed in the right direction.

Not sure he's the one you want to finish it though.

McCormick and Grags only had 1 more shift. I'm gonna say Lindy didn't like what he saw and parked them on the bench.

I watched the game, but I wasn't playing really close attention to it since I was at a friends house and chatting with their Mom.

The ice time shows that Adam didn't take a shift at all during the 3rd and Gragnani and McCormick each only had 1 shift in the 3rd

Tonight was a microcosm of what the whole season has been, except the goaltending was very good. The defense isn't really that bad when completely healthy, but the forwards are so weak that unnecessary pressure is put on the defense and goaltending. Bottom line, you can win with this defense corps, be it Gragnani or Weber as your #6 (you'd like it to be McNabb, but let's just play with the beginning of the season). The forwards need to improve...greatly.

I know Miller has been less than stellar this year, but boy did he win this one for them tonight. He made some pretty amazing saves today.

He did. He stole the game for the first time in a long, long time.

If your forwards could put a few pucks in the net every once in a while, I think you'd see it more often.

I think you're right. I feel like if he can get some good saves in early in the game and maybe get them to the 2nd period without allowing a goal, he seems to look better overall. It's like he's just so afraid to make a mistake right now because the team in front of him can't rebound and score to make up for it. God knows he covered their a$$es tonight though.

It was Miller's best game since he stole the game against Montreal at the begining of the year.

He stole 2 points tonight too.

Absolutely. Now hopefully the entire team can build off if it a bit. I'm not looking for them to go on a run or anything, but to actually look like a cohesive team that is at least entertaining to watch would be nice.

So the last two nights I've watched the Oilers and Dubnyk is a pretty solid goalie from what I've seen. It'll be interesting to see what they do with him. They seem to be notorious for bringing in these old guys who are way past their prime instead of trying to develop a guy of their own.
