Perhaps not two years, but they need a slam dunk center and my opinion is that it has to come in the draft. There are no good UFA centers and a trade would be taking any assets the Sabres have currently off of their roster moving forward. You also have to assume that Darcy (assuming he is still at GM) makes the right pick as well.

I said this about a month ago. The other option is to trade for a first-round caliber that is already drafted, but not in the NHL yet, such as Charlie Coyle or someone similar. It will take more than just picks to get him, but it will also be far less than trading for a proven #1 center in the league. Buffalo is getting a lottery pick, but this has to be the most underwhelming draft class in a while. I'd almost be willing to trade the pick if it helps me land the aforementioned.

I think getting rid of some of the problems is almost as big as obtaining some players. A change of culture/attitude in the room is so badly needed right now...

I surely do not disagree that there is definitely addition by subtraction with a chunk of the Sabres roster.

That is definitely not a bad idea, as long as you target the right guy.

As far as the draft class goes, I feel like everyone said that about the draft class last year too.

No I don't really think Buffalo has a chance for much this season.. They are what 8 points out of 8th place?? its not totally unbelievable but with their habits I don't see it happening...

I personally would like to see...

Vanek - Adam - Pommer
Gerbe - Leino - Kassian
McCormick - Gaustad - Kaleta
Foligno - Schzzrzra - Ennis

Regehr - Myers
Erhoff - Leopold
Finley - McNabb

- MillerTime1130

Foligno needs more AHL time.. i would prefer to see whitmore who is at the end of his contract and possibly the end of his career, they need a true evaluation on him.. Goose's contract is up, i really don't want them re-signing him therefore why not trade him and get something. Kaleta and McMuscle on the 3rd line Ennis reminds me of Max i would dangle him in a trade

Yeah, but this one's winger heavy, and European heavy, at least the top tier, anyway. Given this team's problems and needs, that's not a good combination.

However, I always felt you draft the best player available in a league like the NHL. Most players won't be ready for at least a couple of years. There are some exceptions, obviously, but for the most part, by the time a draftee is ready to make it to the NHL, the team's needs could be completely different. You should be drafting the best player available, and then be willing to trade him for a guy that suits your positional needs later down the road.

Same here, Brockport was a very underwhelming experience in both academics and athletics.

He looked alright during the WJC. I know he was fighting through the flu or something, but that team was very much like this current Sabres roster. Nobody who was willing to take the team on their back and will them to win.

Fair assessment... switch the 3rd and the 4th lines then.. I just put the hitting line as my 3rd line..

Max is why I became a Sabres fan in the first place so comparing Ennis to Max is not helping your cause haha. Whitmore instead of Foligno is fine with me..

I think for the sake of Pat Kane's career, he should not play here. I have a feeling it would be too much of a burden for him. He'd get here and go crazy with the partying and stuff. The expectations would also be huge. Part of why he's so successful in Chicago is because he's not even the focal point of that team. Toews is.

I am not up to date on the draft picks like I used to be given my team is in a different situation. Pittsburgh was super lucky in the timing of their picks for sure.

Exactly, which is why Minnesota won't just give him away, but I do feel like he could be had for the right price. The mid-to-late first rounders have an element of uncertainty to them which do make them acquirable for the right price, which is going to be hefty, but far less than your first-born.

The only center that I know of that's first-round caliber is Grigorenko, and again, given this team's problems right now, I don't think a Russian is the type of player they should be targeting. Malkin seems to be the exception rather than the rule, and I still have a few doubts about his playoff peformances when he's going to be the guy that everyone focuses on (as opposed to a "pick your poison" scenario between him and Crosby).
